How much of an architect’s time goes into producing drawings rather than designing?

Dimensioning plans, creating families, organising sheets, rebuilding from a 2D drawing. It all adds up, and it is exactly the kind of work AI is starting to take off the plate.

For our next Archi-Tech Talk we are joined by Andrea Rocco Matta, founder of Ideatura, to see it in action. From converting 2D DWG drawings into 3D BIM models, to generating Revit families from sketches and automating dimensions, tags and sheets.

The bigger question is what this means for smaller studios. Could a small team now take on work that previously needed far more capacity?

Can AI actively participate in design? And if it can, should it?

George Guida from X-Figura raised some of the most important questions of the ATN Summit around what happens to the design process when AI enters the room, particularly at concept stage. The line between a useful tool and an overreliance on one is thinner than most people think. And the way you write a prompt is already telling you which side you are on.

An industrial robot. A 40ft container. 11 metres of linear track.

This is the prefabrication infrastructure behind ICD Stuttgart’s fibre composite research. A 210kg payload robot with enough reach to fabricate large scale structural components, and enough flexibility to accommodate different building systems and typologies. You can see it wrapping fibre around a pin and adjusting direction mid-wind to reduce friction at the end.

Big tool. Precise process and remarkably compact for what it can do.
