98 year old dad seeking your help.
One of my customers is looking for help with her dad. He’s been unable to get outside for several years, since he lives in a first floor flat in London with no lift access. His daughter would love to bring him out for his 99th birthday on 15th March.
This can be done using a stairs climbing powered wheelchair or similar mobility device. Can you help him?

Stairlift faults can cause injury to elderly users
We attended a stairlift repair in Barnet this morning, where a fault had developed on the footrest of an older Stannah 420 stairlift. The elderly customer had tripped over the footrest and badly injured her leg.
Even apparently minor technical problems can result in physical harm to elderly users. Please ensure that you get a competent professional in regularly to look after and maintain your stairlifts.

Stairlift recycling makes sense

We were asked to remove a Handicare Freecurve earlier this week by a customer who was selling their late mother's house in Southgate. They had paid £6,000 for the installation in early 2023, thus the machine is only about 18 months old. No other stairlift company wanted to touch this machine, not even Handicare, unless they were paid a fee to take it away.

We paid them a modest fee and spent three hours carefully removing the lift and rail without damaging them. Our intention is to re-install the stairlift it for another customer of ours, an elderly gentleman with emphysema who has a twenty year old Handicare Freecurve which is on its last legs. We will recycle the machine and put it onto the existing rail that this gentleman already has in his house.

Yesterday we took the redundant heavy rail to the scrap merchants who paid us the princely sum of only £9 for the steel rail.

Many larger players in the stairlift industry don’t have the flexibility or appetite to tackle cost effective recycling of used lifts, preferring to focus only on more profitable new sales. Our preference is to rescue excellent machines from the scrap heap while delivering value to the recipients of these high quality used machines.

After successfully repairing a very old Acorn stairlift yesterday, my customer's reaction really took me aback. The adult son had a big beaming smile on his face. Why so happy? "Because dad and I can go for a drive tomorrow." Please explain. " Well, bumping dad down the stairs on his bum every day really exhausts him. He hasn't left the house even once for over a year. Now he can escape the house and we can go for a drive". Stairlifts can really change lives for those that physically need them.

Annual review for 2023: Have just performed some analysis of what business was like in 2023.

Highlights:
* 76% of revenues were for reconditioned stairlifts - no surprise there, as these are priced at about a 50% discount to new stairlifts - value driven customers appreciate what we can offer
* 13% of revenues were for new stairlifts, including an outdoor stairlift
* 10% was for repairs and maintenance - a growing part of the business since the major companies have callout charges more than double what we charge. We also see competitors leaving the London market, partly because of the ULEZ charge.
* Side of stairs: 70% of customers had a stairlift on the left hand side of their stairs versus 30% on the right hand side - wow, this came as a huge surprise!
* Shape of stairs: 68% of customers had straight stairs; 32% had curved stairs - but we are seeing strong growth in the curved market now that we cover so many of the major brands
* Stairlift brands - Acorn and Stannah are dominating, but we have also worked on Thyssen, Platinum, Handicare and Otolift
