Old buildings need to breathe. Lime mortar lets them — cement doesn't.

The best part of a project? It's never the big reveal — it's the little details you notice every single day. ✨

We zoomed right in on five of our favourites from recent builds:

✅ Level oak shelves against continuous marble veining
✅ Drainer grooves cut straight into the stone — perfectly even
✅ An oak roof lantern where every beam meets at one clean point
✅ Tile lines running crisply around a window, brassware sitting perfectly plumb
✅ A stair runner border holding the same line on every step

Some things shouldn't be rushed.

Every piece of wood in this Surrey kitchen was finished by hand on site — not in a far-off factory, but here, by the people who'll see it through to handover. The cabinetry, the grain-matched island panel, even the run that wraps the breakfast bar were sanded, oiled and checked by hand until the grain sat exactly right.

It takes longer. It always has. But hand-finishing is how you get a surface that feels considered rather than supplied — the kind of detail you notice every time you run a hand along it.

Thirty years of doing it this way has taught us there's no shortcut worth the compromise. That's the craft behind a Jewel build, led on site by our Construction Manager Dennis Prowse and the team.
