DBR Limited Providing quality specialist services in building conservation. Our strength comes from combining modern construction philosophy with traditional skills.

For the past twenty-five years, we have successfully brought together experienced management, technicians and craftspeople to conserve and repair historic buildings, churches and scheduled monuments. Now well known for the exemplary workmanship of our in-house craft trades, we are one of the leading conservation specialists in London and the South East of England with a strong and stable financial standing.

'DBR' consists of four entities:
- DBR London - our London based operation and head office serving the capital and the home counties,
- DBR Southern - based in East Sussex serving the southern counties from Kent to Dorset,
- DBR Leadwork - our traditional roofing company, and
- DBR Conservation - offering specialist conservation treatment of historic decorative surfaces. Inspiring the next generation of heritage craftspeople 👷

DBR recently attended the Weald & Downland Living Museum – Sussex Heritage Trust Skills Taster Day, where our Executive Director and Chairman, Adrian Attwood spoke with participating students and colleges about careers in the heritage sector and the importance of keeping traditional crafts alive.

Engaging with the next generation is vital to safeguarding the specialist skills and knowledge needed to preserve our historic buildings for the future.

A special thank you to Sussex Heritage Trust, Amanda McDonald (Head of Marketing at DBR) and Bart Baran (Project Manager and Skills Ambassador at DBR) for organising the event, and to our two apprentices for their involvement and support on the day.

At DBR, we’re proud to support initiatives that inspire young people to explore careers in heritage conservation and traditional craftsmanship.

What does the future of heritage conservation look like?

On 14th October, DBR Executive and Chairman Adrian Attwood ACR joined fellow professionals at the Plowden Medal Conservation Award 2026 to discuss career pathways into conservation and supporting the next generation of skilled professionals.

We were also pleased to see Enikö Leányvári, DBR-sponsored QEST Scholar and founder of Tiger’s Eye Mosaic, in attendance as she continues to develop her specialist mosaic skills.

Congratulations to Lorraine Finch ACR, recipient of the 2026 Plowden Medal, recognising her contribution to the conservation profession.

DBR has skilfully saved a Georgian geometric floor at Pushkin House 🏦

The floor was uncovered below a modern marble floor during refurbishment work and comprised Portland stone margins, red mansfield sandstone lozenges and Belgium black and white Carrara marbles. The work was undertaken by DBR's masonry conservation team that undertook the 9 year encaustic tile conservation project at the Palace of Westminster.

The geometric floor was catalogued, lifted and individually cleaned and conserved at our Erith workshop, and re-laid in original locations to faithfully respect the original wear pattern with petrographically matching new stones where required.

Many thanks to our amazing client team Elena Sudakova (CEO) and Patrick Duerden (DIA), and the Heritage of London Trust, for entrusting us with this jewel of London's domestic interiors heritage.

Back in June, DBR Chairman Adrian Attwood spoke to Stone Specialist about the importance of heritage conservation, DBR’s Royal Warrant of Appointment to His Majesty The King, and the future of traditional heritage crafts.

The interview explored the challenges facing the industry, including the skills gap and the importance of investing in the next generation of skilled craftspeople to safeguard the UK’s historic buildings.

At DBR, we’re committed to supporting the future of heritage conservation through initiatives such as our Heritage Skills & Education Centre and our partnership with the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (QEST).

Back at Trafalgar Square 👷

DBR is back at Trafalgar Square, continuing our long-standing involvement with this iconic London landmark.

Each year, tranche works are carried out to repair and replace slabs that have become damaged or worn throughout the year. Our team is currently undertaking this year’s works, ensuring the stonework is carefully repaired and finished to the required standard.

Two types of stone are used for repairs at Trafalgar Square: Yorkstone and Crossland Hill, selected to match the existing materials and maintain the character and appearance of the Square.

Having previously carried out slab works at Trafalgar Square, our team brings valuable site knowledge and experience to these ongoing maintenance works. Returning year after year allows DBR to build on this understanding and provide continuity in the care and maintenance of this significant historic public space.

Another example of DBR’s commitment to the long-term conservation and maintenance of London’s heritage.

We are pleased to be celebrating the completion of Minka House in Kew Gardens. The project has been delivered by amazing craft teams including DBR Conservation, Kit Davis of Master Thatching Limited, Sands and Randall and Alltask Ltd.

The project has been expertly curated by Kew's project team, Acanthus, Clews Architects, Hockley & Dawson and Firmingers with site management by DBRs Conservation Technician Sema Karahan and Head of Conservation Paolo Volpi.

A closer look at the skilled craftsmanship taking place on site at the Royal Pavilion in Brighton.

Our stonemasons are carefully working by hand to repair and reinstate the intricate carved stonework, using traditional techniques to retain the character and detail of this remarkable historic building.

It’s a great example of the specialist skills that sit at the heart of conservation, preserving the past through traditional craftsmanship for future generations.

Our specialist conservation team is currently undertaking stone conservation works at Waddesdon Manor, working across the North and South façades of this Grade I listed building.

The project involves the careful conservation of historic Bath Stone and the intricate architectural features that form an important part of the manor’s character.

Working at this level requires both specialist access and a high degree of craftsmanship, with our team working closely with the existing fabric to ensure that repairs are sympathetic to the building and its architectural detail.

Projects such as Waddesdon Manor showcase the importance of combining traditional craft skills with specialist conservation knowledge. We’re proud to have our team working on the continued care of such an important piece of the UK’s built heritage.

We’re pleased to share that DBR Southern has been awarded a three-year contract to carry out routine maintenance and church inspections across 13 historic churches in Sussex and Surrey.

As part of the programme, our teams will undertake two visits per year to each church, helping to identify and address maintenance requirements before they develop into more significant issues.

The inspections will cover both the buildings and their surrounding churchyards.

This proactive approach supports the long-term care and conservation of these historic buildings, ensuring that issues are identified early and that their fabric can be carefully maintained for future generations.

Our joinery workshop plays an important role in supporting DBR’s heritage projects, producing one-off, bespoke joinery items made specifically for the unique requirements of historic buildings and sites.

Led by our skilled craftspeople, the workshop combines traditional techniques with a detailed understanding of historic materials, allowing us to recreate, repair and produce specialist joinery that is sympathetic to the character of each project.

Our Master Craftsperson, Cary Wadey, brings extensive experience and specialist knowledge to this work, helping to pass on traditional skills while maintaining the highest standards of craftsmanship.
