A well-designed hotel bathroom balances function with atmosphere.

Lighting should adapt throughout the day, circulation should feel effortless, and materials should withstand repeated use without compromising the design. The setting matters too, from a sunken bath framing the landscape at Bürgenstock Resort to the Aegean views at Mykonos Grand Hotel & Resort.

Good bathroom design brings comfort, durability and context together.

The design of a hotel begins long before the doors open, with careful consideration of how people arrive, move through and interact with the space. Alongside the technical requirements, operational needs and practical decisions that shape the project behind the scenes.

At MKV Design, there is no single aesthetic applied from one project to the next. Architecture, location, culture and purpose provide the starting point, allowing each interior to develop its own identity and respond to the experience it is designed to create.

Wellness is integrated directly into the suite at Mykonos Riviera.

Alongside a private pool and views towards the Aegean, the Signature Spa Pool Suite includes a dedicated 55 sqm wellness level with Technogym equipment, a private sauna and a steam room.

Bringing these features into the suite makes wellness part of the private accommodation, not a separate hotel amenity.

An industry moment with Helen Quaine and Ky Low at the 2025 SBID Awards.

Beyond celebrating the work being produced across the industry, occasions like these offer a chance to exchange ideas with the designers, makers and specialists behind it.

That exchange of knowledge and perspectives is an important part of staying connected to the wider design community.

Arrival at Matild Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Budapest immediately introduces the character of both the building and Budapest itself.

This 19th-century landmark blends restored architecture with references to Baroque, Romanesque, and Art Nouveau design, alongside Hungarian traditions of metalwork, embroidery, and tile-making.

From the reception onwards, its history is present without preventing the hotel from feeling contemporary.

For Maria Vafiadis, successful hospitality interiors are defined as much by emotion as by appearance.

Materials, proportion, movement, lighting and context all influence how people respond to their surroundings, often without them being immediately aware of why.

The challenge is to achieve that emotional response while ensuring everything works effortlessly in practice.

Designed for evenings overlooking the Aegean.

At Bolla Bar, at Mykonos Grand Hotel & Resort, an arched entrance inspired by traditional Mykonian architecture leads into an intimate lounge before opening onto the sea-facing terrace.

A Dionysos marble and mirrored bar, bespoke lighting and the glow of the outdoor firepit take on a different character as daylight fades.

Lighting plays different roles throughout every hotel. It defines arrival, supports movement, shapes atmosphere and provides practical function, adapting in intensity and purpose as guests move through the space.

The most effective lighting responds to both the function of a space and the experience it is designed to create.

The most important details in hospitality are often those you don’t consciously notice.

The weight of a door handle. The position of a lamp. The texture of a fabric. Each is considered to make the space feel intuitive, comfortable and memorable.

It’s the accumulation of these small decisions that gives a hotel its sense of ease.

Experience shapes the way we design. Led by Maria Vafiadis, the senior team at MKV Design brings together creative direction, technical knowledge and decades of experience across hospitality and residential design.

From first concept to final detail, that experience helps guide every stage of a project.
