🚨 Sunday call-out ! Circuit Breaker Keeps Tripping? We Found the Problem! 🚨

Today’s job involved a ring circuit that kept tripping the breaker every time power was restored.

After carrying out fault finding, several hidden connection boxes were discovered. Unfortunately, the previous workmanship was poor, with connections incorrectly terminated and junction boxes installed on top of each other. To make matters worse, a recent bathroom leak had allowed water to enter some of the connections, causing further issues.

⚡ What we did:
✅ Located the source of the fault
✅ Opened and inspected all affected connections
✅ Correctly reconnected and secured conductors
✅ Installed suitable maintenance-free / water-resistant connection enclosures
✅ Replaced a faulty socket outlet
✅ Corrected an incorrectly connected outlet
✅ Fully tested the circuit
✅ Restored power and confirmed safe operation

The customer now has a fully functioning ring circuit with no tripping and peace of mind that the installation is safe.

Today we completed a dedicated power supply installation for a new air conditioning system, including:

🔹 New dedicated AC circuit installation
🔹 External isolators fitted for safe maintenance
🔹 Full testing and inspection carried out
🔹 Electrical Installation Certificate issued
🔹 AC unit commissioned and tested
🔹 Final operational checks completed

Everything tested to BS 7671 requirements and left fully operational.

🔧 Outdoor Pumping System Enclosure Replacement

Today we completed the replacement of a damaged recessed enclosure housing a pumping system high-level alarm unit. The existing enclosure had deteriorated over time and was no longer providing adequate protection against moisture, dirt, and environmental exposure.

The work included:

✅ Safe isolation of the equipment
✅ Removal of the old enclosure
✅ Inspection of existing wiring and connections
✅ Installation of a new weather-resistant recessed enclosure
✅ Reinstatement of the alarm equipment and cable management
✅ Functional testing to confirm correct operation

Today’s fault investigation highlighted how poor appliance installation can quickly become a serious electrical safety issue.

Client reported that a recently installed Hisense induction hob was randomly switching on and off during use. After carrying out a full inspection, the cause of the fault was identified inside the supply terminal connection.

The hob had not been fitted level with the worktop, allowing water to enter beneath the appliance over time. Moisture was found around the sealing gasket and underneath the unit itself.

Further inspection discovered a defective live terminal which was unable to clamp the conductor correctly. The terminal screw continuously rotated without securing the cable, leaving the live connection loose.

This type of fault can cause:
• intermittent operation
• overheating connections
• arcing
• damage to the appliance
• potential fire risk

The appliance was isolated immediately and the client advised not to use it until the supplier resolves the issue under warranty.

Not every electrical problem is caused by the property wiring — sometimes the issue is the appliance itself or the way it has been installed.

Another job done and dusted today ⚡

Customer requested additional fire protection improvements around the consumer unit installation. Work carried out included fitting a fire-resistant backing board behind the distribution board to improve safety and improve the overall standard of the installation.

The existing RCD was also upgraded and replaced with a new Type A device, providing improved protection for modern electrical equipment and appliances.

Client has been made fully aware that the existing distribution board installation falls below modern standards and that a full consumer unit upgrade is recommended in the future, as the previous installation leaves a lot to be desired.

At this stage, following discussion with the client, only the RCD upgrade was carried out, with a full DB replacement potentially planned at a later date.

All work completed, tested, and left fully operational.

Follow-up job completed today following last week’s emergency call-out regarding a faulty immersion heater system and lack of hot water.

During today’s visit, the booster immersion element was successfully brought back into operation. A new thermostatic controller, cable, and associated wiring were installed to replace the faulty components previously identified.

Full testing was carried out upon completion, with the system now operating safely and correctly.
