🏁 What a weekend!

Congratulations to Mike King and Kelly Anderson, who took on Alfie's Squad's Race for A Reason 2026 last weekend, finishing 12th out of 30 teams and putting their teamwork, problem-solving skills and determination to the test as they navigated a series of secret locations across the country in support of an incredible cause.

The challenge was all about raising funds and awareness for Alfie's Squad, a charity that supports children and young people affected by su***de bereavement, helping them build confidence, friendships and connections with others who understand their experiences.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported their fundraising efforts and cheered them on throughout the weekend. We are incredibly proud to have colleagues taking on challenges like this to make a positive difference.

We are looking forward to joining colleagues from across the rail industry in Dublin for the Railway Engineering Institution (RailEI)'s Technical Seminar on the 29 October in Dublin, Ireland.

As part of the programme, our very own Nicholas Rowe will be delivering speaker session discussing how real-time weather and asset-condition data can help rail operators identify emerging risks earlier and make more informed decisions before asset conditions disrupt the network.

Drawing on our experience in rail infrastructure, asset management, and using the Core Valley Lines project as a practical example, Nick will explore how a more intelligence-led, predictive approach can give operators valuable time to deploy resources, introduce operating controls and put contingency plans into action.

When Megan Shields joined Amey as an Assurance Graduate, she was not sure what to expect from a career in infrastructure. Less than a year later, she is helping shape the future of our business, from supporting HSEQ improvements to co-founding the Early Careers Women at Amey Network, which now has around 80 members.

Megan's story is a brilliant example of what can happen when you embrace new opportunities, build your confidence and back your ideas.

What does it take to deliver major infrastructure successfully, and where can projects come unstuck?

At the European Infrastructure Conference in Dublin, Simon Rhoden, Business Director at Amey, joined infrastructure leaders from across Europe to explore the opportunities and challenges shaping the sector.

Simon shared his perspective on major infrastructure delivery and the risks that can stand in the way of success, from skills shortages and the cost and availability of accommodation to delays in projects coming to market.

Despite these pressures, his message to industry was a positive one: Ireland’s long-term rail strategy, focused on decarbonisation, increased capacity and faster journeys, provides a clear direction for investment, underpinned by a project pipeline stretching more than a decade into the future.

As always, this conference was a valuable opportunity to exchange expertise with industry peers and contribute to the conversations shaping the future of infrastructure across Europe.

🏆 A double award win for the Core Valley Lines Transformation Programme!

We are incredibly proud to celebrate two major wins at the British Construction & Infrastructure Awards, with the programme receiving both the prestigious Sir John Armitt Prize and the Transport Project Award.

Delivered in collaboration between Amey Infrastructure Wales and Transport for Wales, the £1.5bn programme is transforming 170km of railway across the South Wales Valleys, creating better connections and supporting cleaner, more reliable and accessible journeys.

The judges praised its “very strong and widespread community benefits” and highly collaborative culture, describing it as a “benchmark project” for the challenge ahead for Great British Railways.

Wayne Brigden, Business Director at Amey, said:

“Winning both awards is a fantastic achievement and something the whole team can be incredibly proud of. The programme is about much more than new infrastructure. It is creating better connections, supporting regeneration and making a lasting difference for passengers and communities across South Wales.”

Four years ago, Anna Wolski joined Amey as a Graduate. Today, she is a Senior Strategic Consultant, having progressed through multiple roles while building her experience and expertise.

She is just one of the many colleagues across our Early Careers community developing new skills, taking on new challenges and shaping their careers at Amey. From graduates in sustainability and environmental consultancy to apprentices working across our business, there are opportunities to grow from day one.

When asked about the Early Careers programme Anna said “The variety of opportunities has helped me the most. Being able to try new things has given me the chance to develop skills that I can apply both to project work and beyond.”
