When you know… you KNOW. 🤯🔥

Here’s my little tip for installing spindles onto the treads of a cut string staircase — and honestly… GENIUS OVERLOAD. 🧠💥

No messing around. No fighting awkward angles. No unnecessary faffing about.

Just a simple method that makes getting those spindles positioned, marked and installed so much easier and more accurate. 👌

One of those little carpenter tricks that makes you think:

“Why the hell didn’t I do it like this before?” 😂

Client didn’t want to replace the newel posts. Fair enough — they’re solid oak and match the rest of the stairs.
So I’m raising them in situ instead 👇
Building Regs Part K says stair guarding needs to be 900mm minimum on the flight and 1100mm on landings — and a lot of older staircases fall short. Replacing newels means ripping into treads, strings and handrails. Raising them properly? A morning’s work.
Here’s the method I use so the join is invisible and the post is rock solid.
Save this if you’ve got a staircase that needs bringing up to regs without a full rebuild.

A bit of recognition that means a lot… 🏆

I’m genuinely honoured to have been nominated and shortlisted for Carpenter of the Year for West London by Checkatrade.

There’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes that people don’t always see — the early starts, late finishes, long days, the pressure, the problem solving, and the constant drive to make sure every job is finished to the standard I expect from myself.

I don’t do this just for awards or recognition. I do it because I genuinely love what I do and take a huge amount of pride in my work.

But when that hard work gets recognised and you find out that people have taken the time to nominate you, shortlist you and put your name forward… that means something.

It’s a reminder that the graft, the attention to detail and the effort really can make a difference.

Whatever happens from here, I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported me, recommended me, trusted me with their homes and projects, and followed the journey.

Hard work doesn’t always get noticed… but sometimes, it does. ❤️

Other trades destroyed this staircase before I got to it. Risers all different heights, treads chewed up, nosings gone.
Here’s how I brought it back to regs 👇
Building Regs Part K says every riser on a flight must be the same height (max 220mm) and no more than 5mm variation across the flight. Anything more is a trip hazard and it’ll fail on a sale survey.
Save this before your next stair repair — it’s the exact method I use on every job.
