Douglas Fir House — up into the loft.

The same palette of Douglas fir and plywood continues into the new loft, forming the structure, linings and built-in storage throughout.

Full-height glazing opens the bedroom towards the garden and treetops, with a full-width ensuite tucked into the front eaves and naturally lit from above by rooflights.

A simple, warm palette of exposed timber, plywood and muted green runs through both spaces.

Douglas Fir House — from the garden.
The exposed Douglas fir frame continues through to the rear elevation, with full-height glazing opening the main family space onto the garden.
Above, the loft extension follows the same simple language of timber and glass.
Day and night.

Finally, we have some proper photographs of Douglas Fir House.
A slightly more personal project for us — the home of our director, Tom, and his family in Walthamstow.
The project transformed and extended an existing 1930s house, with much of the work carried out as a self-build through Covid. The new rear extension is structured around an exposed Douglas fir frame, creating a large, light-filled family space with a strong connection to the garden beyond.
After living with it for a few years, it’s particularly nice to have it properly photographed.

More to follow!

Our mixed-use, new build project located in Leyton, London is our latest project to receive planning, with consent granted in January.

The site located on a prominent corner, split into two halves (Site A and Site B) via the overground railway viaduct opposite Midland Road Overground Station. It was aquired with a consented planning scheme containing 25 residential units and 2 commercial units.
Following negotiations with neighbouring property owners, the client was able to secure additional land to the corner of site B (Coopers Lane & High Road) - this provided the opportunity to return to planning with a larger scheme.
The current scheme contains 48 residential units and 2 commercial units. Site A remains unchanged while Site B was redesigned to take advantage of a larger site and urban streetscape.
Care has been taken to retain the original planning application’s materiality and fenestration style.

We look forward to seeing it's construction!
