Synthesis is a New Delhi Besed architecture and design firm doing innovative work rooted in rationalist and humanist ideals. The office’s small size allows agility and adaptability to various project types while preserving uncommon attention to detail in all aspects of the process - from the earliest real-estate and planning issues, through construction supervision, and even decor. Studio principa

l, Parvez Alam (B.Arch | Masters, University of Glasgow, UK) & Sachi Gupta (B.Arch) uses a problem-solving methodology, rejecting the formulaic and conventional. An imposed style or agenda never drive the design process, the work is reality based. Ultimately, the final product is a reasoned and appropriate response to the site, the programmed functions, the particular client, as well as the various constraints that ultimately inform and generate the design. In residential, commercial, and retail projects our office has continued to demonstrate that the pragmatic and functional needn’t be dry and soulless. Rather, it can coexist with aesthetic beauty, and do so without great expense. Many of our projects have overcome significant budget constraints, exploiting inexpensive and readily available materials and techniques, used in new ways, towards new solutions. Many of our projects also start from small, uninspiring spaces, posing technical difficulties with zoning, building codes, structural issues, or just not enough square feet. Unlike many firms who routinely reject such small, difficult, and less profitable projects, we have taken these “nothing” spaces and turned them into something. Resistance has continually embraced these challenges and gained valuable experience that is applicable to larger, more complex, and more costly projects as well. This has put us in an almost unique position in Delhi/ NCR to offer high-level design and service with incredible value.

“I want to still feel like I’m in the forest.”
That was the entire brief.
Not a room list. Not a layout. A feeling — and the site did half the work for us: dense woodland, barely accessible. Our job was never to manufacture that sense of immersion. Only to protect it.
Every decision came back to one question: does this let the landscape in, or shut it out?
Some houses are designed around a lifestyle. This one was designed around a feeling. 🌲

Still shaping this one.

An upcoming project from Synthesis London, and this exterior preview reflects its current stage — not the finished piece, just an honest look at the process. There’s something almost companionable about following a project like this from the start. More to come soon.

Would You Rather, with Sachi Gupta.

Every designer has an instinct. The best ones know when to trust it.

A quick round of Would You Rather, where Sachi weighs bold against balanced, intuition against logic, and simplicity against statement.

The answers may surprise you.

Watch till the end.

Episode 10 of Room for Dreams asked a different question: when is a building actually finished?

Recorded live at Milan Design Week 2026, hosted by Indx.global with designboom magazine and ArchDaily and moderated by editor Claire Broadka Claire Brodka, this episode featured Parvez Alam in a conversation on architecture that keeps changing after the drawings are done — pools that become open-air theatres, cellars that become something else entirely, homes that get rewritten every decade as families grow and shift.

Parvez’s point was simple: the best architecture doesn’t resist this. It leaves room for it.

A conversation on designing for change rather than permanence — and on why the most enduring spaces are the ones built with a little liminality written into their bones.

We’ve always believed that most meaningful spaces don’t imitate the past — they reinterpret it. For the brand, we looked beyond the ideas of a traditional dhaba and focused on what truly defines it — its warmth, honesty, and sense of togetherness, of course.

Through considered materiality, soft lighting, and carefully composed spaces, we elevate the experience without losing its soul — that was important. The nostalgia is subtle and never overdone; every detail had a purpose.

It is never about creating a roadside stop — it’s about capturing its spirit, isn’t it, and translating it into a contemporary dining experience that feels both familiar and quite luxurious.

A celebration of Indian heritage, thoughtfully reimagined and repurposed.

A design philosophy isn’t really a statement. It’s a hundred small choices, repeated until they become a pattern.

This or that: Parvez Alam picks between materials, finishes, directions — the same instinct that quietly runs through every Synthesis London space.

When designing for a heritage luxury house such as Tod’s, the brand guidelines are the foundation of every decision. They shape the architecture, materiality, proportions and the overall experience, ensuring the space becomes a natural extension of the brand rather than an expression of the designer.

The objective is never to create an interior that competes with the product. Instead, it should quietly reinforce the brand’s craftsmanship, elegance and understated Italian sophistication.

Because true luxury retail is not about displaying products; it’s about creating an atmosphere where the brand’s story is experienced, not simply seen.

Luxury retail is about far more than the act of buying. It’s about creating a setting that reflects a brand’s character and leaves a lasting impression.

At Synthesis, we believe the most successful retail spaces quietly express a brand’s identity through thoughtful architecture, carefully considered materials and meticulous detailing.

Some spaces are created to showcase products. The best ones create a genuine connection between a brand and the people who walk through the door.

The most memorable retail experiences aren’t simply visited—they stay with you.

Staying true to the philosophy of innovating within the obvious, the impromptu reflections from the principal designers offered an authentic insight into the practice’s ethos. Each brought a distinct perspective, yet together they revealed the depth of a shared design language — one rooted in curiosity, shaped by experience, and enriched through individual interpretation.

Sachi Gupta and Parvez Alam continues — no script, no time to think, just honest answers.

Milan Design Week 2026 sparked one of the most thought-provoking conversations of the week, hosted by .global with and , featuring editor Claire Broadka ( ).

The question was simple: as design trends travel effortlessly across borders, what gets left behind?

Episode 5 of Room for Dreams explores practising architecture in an increasingly borderless world — the temptation of a universal aesthetic, the expectations that one design language should work everywhere, and the importance of protecting indigenous craft, local ecology and cultural identity.

A timely conversation about preserving a true sense of place in an industry that too often favours the same over the specific.
