Would you know how to check if your charger is the right one for your device? 👇

🛒 We've seen incidents where the replacement charger sold via an online marketplace is used but is not compatible with the original battery. Leading to overheating and catastrophic fires.

Buying chargers from third-party sellers via online marketplaces can be a risk, if the product does not meet UK safety standards.

🔋 It’s important to use the charger and battery supplied by the manufacturer.

🏭 If a replacement is needed, it should be bought directly from the original manufacturer.

Using the correct charger for your product helps reduce the risk of faults and overheating.

Stay safe when charging your outdoor tools and equipment.

A working smoke alarm gives you early warning. Test it at least once a month and never ignore a low-battery beep.

These regular checks can make a big difference when you really need it.

⚠️Ensure you have working smoke alarms on each floor of your home.

Don’t wait until it’s too late.

As e-bike and e-scooter battery fires rising across the UK, education has never been more important. As always, great work from our fund recipient, Lifeskills for educating the next generation on this issue.

Last week, Lifeskills hosted an incredible event in Bristol, featuring an immersive experience helping young people understand the dangers of electrical hazards and the everyday devices powered by lithium-ion batteries, such as e-bikes and e-scooters.

🏠The team mocked up powerful real-life scenarios, including the visuals of an e-scooter battery fire and even a phone that had been left on charge on a bed and consequently, burst into flames. The turnout was incredible in Bristol, congrats to the Lifeskills team.

Button batteries may be tiny - but the risks are huge.

We're supporting the Child Accident Prevention Trust for to remind parents and carers that these batteries are found in many toys, gadgets and remotes. If a child swallows one, it can be fatal.

✔️ Look around your home for button batteries - found in toys, remotes, gadgets and any spares
✔️ Store spare and used batteries safely and out of reach of children
✔️ Dispose of used or “flat” batteries straight away. Even “flat” ones can still cause serious harm.
✔️ Check that battery compartments are secure and that no batteries have fallen out.

E-bikes are helping millions of people travel more affordably and efficiently 🚴⚡

But as their popularity grows, so does the importance of understanding battery safety.

In our latest documentary, London Fire Brigade firefighters recount attending a residential fire later confirmed to have started from an e-bike battery.

Most people assume the products they buy online are safe. But with e-bikes, their batteries and chargers, knowing what you’re buying, using compatible chargers and avoiding overcharging can all help reduce risks. Watch the full documentary now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ag9wkef0Zk
