⚠️ Landlords and those responsible for social housing: are you up to date with the electrical safety duties in England?

New measures came into effect on 1 November last year, including allowing local councils to issue fines of up to £40,000 when landlords fail to meet their electrical safety responsibilities.

A recent case in which a landlord was fined after 21 electrical defects left a family at risk shows why staying on top of electrical safety and acting on remedial work is so important. https://bit.ly/4ggL5Pw

Social housing landlords have a six-month transitional period until 1 November 2026 to ensure electrical installations and equipment provided by them are inspected and tested by a qualified person.

💡 Make sure you understand your responsibilities. Electrical installations and any appliances you provide must be checked by a qualified and competent person.

⚠️What to know if you are using electricals outside...
Don't use your standard extension lead outside. It might seem convenient...but if it gets wet, you could be at serious risk of electric shock.

✅ Always choose weatherproof, outdoor-rated options. Only use extension leads plugged into IP66-rated external sockets - these are sealed and waterproof, even in heavy rain.
