A successful day at the Concrete Bridge Development Group (CBDG) Annual Conference has come to an end.

As event sponsors, we were pleased to join industry leaders, asset owners, consultants, and contractors at The Institution of Structural Engineers in London to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing our bridge infrastructure.

The conversations throughout the day highlighted the importance of collaboration, innovation, and long-term asset stewardship in creating resilient transport networks for future generations.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to visit the CRL team. We look forward to building on these discussions and supporting infrastructure owners with practical, durable solutions.

Brutalist architecture tells the story of post-war Britain, bold design and social ambition. Preserving it means protecting both structural safety and cultural identity.

At Park Hill Flats in Sheffield, one of the UK’s most iconic Grade II listed Brutalist developments, CRL was proud to help safeguard this landmark. Working closely with architects, planners and Historic England, we delivered sensitive concrete repair, structural strengthening and protection works that respected the original design.

This project highlights the value of specialist, in-house expertise in delivering high-quality heritage restoration that will stand the test of time.

Apprenticeship Week Highlight – Bobby Church

This Apprenticeship Week, we are proud to highlight Bobby Church, a Construction Management Degree Apprentice within our CRL Highways team.

Over the past 3.5 years, Bobby has combined academic study with hands-on delivery across major highways projects, taking on real responsibility in areas such as quality assurance, RAMS, inspections, testing and programme management. His contribution has been meaningful, adding genuine value to project delivery rather than simply observing.

Bobby has achieved a range of industry-recognised qualifications, been shortlisted for the CRA Emerging Talent Award, and is working towards MCIOB chartership. His journey reflects how CRL’s apprenticeship pathways develop capable professionals who are ready to support the inspection, repair and refurbishment of vital infrastructure.

We are proud of Bobby’s progress and look forward to supporting his continued development at CRL.

Fun fact from 2010. This was the year sustainability and the circular economy became an industry expectation, not just an innovation.

By this time, CRL was firmly established as a leader in structural repair, delivering bespoke asset maintenance, energy-efficient upgrades and façade refurbishment across the UK. Our early work in carbon fibre strengthening continued to evolve, leading to composite bridge solutions that delivered durable, lightweight and cost-effective infrastructure.

Supported by experienced teams and long-standing leadership, CRL continued to grow, innovate and adapt, with a clear focus on the future.

On an island like Guernsey, resilient port infrastructure is essential to daily life, trade, and connectivity.

CRL was proud to refurbish Berths 4 and 6 at St Peter Port, working closely with Guernsey Ports to deliver durable solutions in a challenging marine environment. Through innovative concrete repair and cathodic protection, we maximised efficiency, minimised disruption, and kept the berths operational throughout the works.

This project extended the life of critical assets that support the island’s economy and showcases the expertise and collaboration that define CRL.

The 2000s marked a defining decade for CRL.

We expanded our services, strengthened our regional presence with the opening of our Scottish office, and launched CRL Refurbishment to focus on extending the life of vital concrete assets. Industry recognition followed, along with continued advances in cathodic protection and carbon fibre strengthening.

By the end of the decade, sustained growth and our first overseas operation reflected the strength of our people, expertise, and partnerships.

Wastewater digesters may be out of sight, but they are critical to keeping our infrastructure running.

CRL Surveys assessed four 50-year-old concrete digesters at a major UK water treatment works, identifying deterioration and developing a practical, durable repair strategy alongside Ward and Burke Construction Limited.

Through informed investigation and targeted repairs, we helped extend the life of these essential assets and support safe, reliable wastewater operations for years to come.
