đź‘Ź Cross-team collaboration was at the heart of the recent successful delivery of our Derrykillultagh Boiler Upgrade for Gas Networks Ireland.

Murphy was contracted to deliver the boiler replacement project associated with the 75/7 bar gas transmission system in Northern Ireland. To ensure uninterrupted operations throughout the works, a temporary boiler system was installed, allowing the existing boilers to be safely removed and replaced with new units.

Our Northern Ireland Operations & Maintenance (NIO&M) team successfully degassed and decommissioned the existing boiler system, creating the foundation for the upgrade works. Colleagues from our NSWC and Pipe Fabrication teams then removed the existing pipework and carried out the fabrication, testing, inspection, coating, and installation of new fuel gas and vent relief pipework.

Our Electrical Services team completed the electrical installation, testing, and commissioning support for the new boiler system. They also delivered a new solar PV installation at the AGI, further supporting Gas Networks Ireland's commitment to reducing carbon emissions and improving sustainability.

Once the upgrade works were complete, the AGI was safely handed back to our NIO&M team, who successfully commissioned the new system while ensuring continuity of gas flow throughout the project.

This project is a great example of Murphy teams working together to deliver complex infrastructure projects safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards. Well done to everyone involved.

As with everything we do at Murphy, we are committed to leaving a positive legacy in all the communities in which we work.

We visited father and son team, Antony Carr Snr and Jnr, to hear more about the 3.7km of electrical upgrade works we are undertaking in Surrey.

We're working closely with Surrey County Council and the local community, to ensure the minimum of disruption whilst undertaking these works in West Byfleet. Thank you to the residents for their patience during the roadworks.

🔩 185 Tonnes of Precision: Ridge Road Bridge🔩

One of the largest structures recently completed by our Steel Fabrication workshop in Ireland is the Ridge Road Bridge, a significant steel bridge project showcasing the scale and expertise of our fabrication team.

This bridge, which has now been transported to site in the UK, comprises of 2 large 80 tonne box girder sections made up of weathering grade plate with continuous butt welds.

Due to the size and complexity of the structure, two cranes were required to safely lift and position the steelwork during fabrication, allowing our team to complete critical welds with the precision and control demanded by the project.

From fabrication and assembly through to welding, inspection and finishing, every stage reflects the skill, planning and collaboration involved in delivering major infrastructure projects. It’s been great to see this impressive structure taking shape, and we look forward to following its journey as installation on site begins this week.

The key goal of our social value activities is to leave a positive legacy in our communities. So, we’re delighted to see this become a reality for St. Joseph’s Primary School in Ollerton, who our depot team have been supporting for several years.

Our team have been back and forth to help the school revitalise their outdoor learning spaces, and as a result, St. Joseph’s has now received a Platinum accreditation from OPAL (Outdoor Play & Learning), placing them in the top 1% for Excellence In Play.

🚧⚡ Transmission Season 2026 ⚡🚧
Our ESB Framework teams are busy delivering transmission projects across Ireland, expanding our direct delivery approach and bringing more specialist works in-house.
Some of the projects currently underway include:
🔹 110kV Knockraha – Lysaghtstown Re-conductoring – a first for Murphy delivering this type of re-conductoring project in-house for ESB.
🔹 220kV Aghada – Knockraha Tower Replacement – delivering a full tower replacement from foundations through to conductor transfer.
🔹 220kV Flagford – Louth Line Refurbishment – upgrading foundations, repainting towers and replacing key components.
🔹 110kV Carrigdrohid Pole Set Replacement – replacing 40 double pole sets using Murphy's own people, plant and resources, another first for our team.
These projects showcase the expertise, commitment and collaboration of our teams as we help strengthen Ireland's electricity transmission network. ⚡
