🌧️🏠 STORM AUSTEN IS APPROACHING. HERE'S WHAT YOUR ROOF MIGHT BE TELLING YOU.
With Storm Austen expected to bring strong winds and heavy rain to parts of the UK, we thought we'd share a little practical advice.
Not every storm causes roof damage, and not every loose slate means you need a new roof.
But there are a few things worth keeping an eye on. 👀
🏠 Slipped or missing tiles
If you notice a tile or slate has moved, don't ignore it. One small opening can allow rainwater into places it shouldn't reach.
💧 New damp patches
Keep an eye on upstairs ceilings, loft spaces and areas around chimneys or rooflights. Fresh staining or dripping could indicate water getting in.
🔎 Ridges, verges and flashing
If anything looks loose, lifted or out of place, particularly around chimneys and roof edges, it's worth having it checked.
🌧️ Gutters and downpipes
Overflowing gutters, detached sections or water running down external walls can be signs that something needs attention.
☀️ Solar panels
A properly designed and installed solar system should be secured to withstand appropriate wind loads. However, if you notice panels moving, unusual rattling or visible damage, arrange for a professional inspection.
⚠️ MOST IMPORTANTLY, DON'T TAKE RISKS.
Please don't climb onto your roof or attempt repairs during high winds.
Most initial checks can be made safely from ground level or from inside your home.
So, when should you call a roofer?
If you've spotted visible damage, water coming in, loose materials or something that doesn't look right, it's sensible to get professional advice.
And remember, a small repair today could help prevent a much bigger problem later.
At SolarCoverUK, we'd much rather help you understand what needs attention than tell you that you need an entirely new roof when you don't.
Stay safe, keep an eye on the weather and look after your home. 🏡
