A cement "repair" was quietly killing this 130-year-old wall in Fulham.
This late-Victorian London stock brick terrace that had been repointed in hard cement mortar at some point in its past. On paper, a fix. In reality, it was sealing moisture into the wall, forcing water out through the face of the brick instead of the joint, and letting frost lift the surface off the masonry winter after winter.
Our restoration of the front elevation included:
✅ Raking out the failed cement pointing by hand and repointing in a breathable lime mortar with a traditional weather-struck finish
✅ A full ThermaTech clean — superheated water, no chemicals, no abrasion — lifting decades of atmospheric soiling from the brick
✅ Localised brick repairs, cill re-facing and new drip details to shed water clear of the façade
✅ A single coat of Stormdry breathable masonry protection, resisting rain pe*******on while allowing the wall to breathe
✅ New black uPVC deep-flow rainwater goods to protect the elevation for years to come
The result: a façade that looks its best and, more importantly, performs the way it was built to — managing moisture the way a solid-wall Victorian building is meant to.
