The Last Ship – Metropolitan Opera House, New York 🇺🇸 ⚓️
24-hour continuous load in. Less than 12 hours of tech. Nine performances.
The last five weeks have been a busy one over on the other side of the pond.
After 2.5 weeks of prep at Christie Lites Broadway, followed by a week of pre-vis and integration, a 24-hour continuous load in brought The Last Ship to life at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York.
With only nine performances and less than 12 hours of technical rehearsal time, everything had to work straight out of the box. Thankfully it did.
One of the more unique parts of the project was fully integrating an external lighting rig into the Met’s existing house systems. Not something they’re regularly asked to accommodate, and we’re hugely grateful to the team there for welcoming us in and helping make it happen.
Away from the production, we also had the chance to visit City Theatrical and get a look behind the scenes at where some of the industry’s most-used tools and accessories are developed and built. From DMXcats and Show Babies through to many of the lighting accessories found in theatres around the world, it was great to see where the magic happens and meet the team behind the products.
A big thank you to everyone involved, especially Matt & Stephen at Christie Lites UK, the Met crew, and the team at City Theatrical for their hospitality throughout the trip.
Leg one is now complete. Next stop Amsterdam, before heading home and making a quick dash into the Theatre Royal Drury Lane.
