What a fabulous event 🙌

We had a fantastic time at Decorex, meeting fellow professionals and gaining so many insights from across the industry, including Russell Sage, ‌Natalia Miyar, Durgesh Sinh and Jeff Hayward.

We’re also extremely proud of Maia for delivering a brilliant talk on designing for wellbeing with the room✨

One of the key takeaways from the event was the importance of combining intuition and experience with the science behind the spaces we create.

By introducing technology to support these insights, we can better understand how our environments affect us and design spaces that truly enhance wellbeing, comfort and the way we live.

We’re excited to be attending Decorex next week, an event that brings together industry professionals for inspiration and design talks ✨

And even more excitingly, our very own Maia will be joining the panel on Sunday 11th October 🎤

Maia will be discussing all things designing for wellbeing, exploring how we can create comfortable, healthy spaces that make people feel good in their homes. This is a fantastic opportunity and we’re looking forward to sharing our insights into neuroarchitecture.

Floral detailing like this is a hallmark of Hampstead’s Arts and Crafts streetscape. This floral banding at 10 Lyndhurst Road is a small but telling example of ornament used to humanise brickwork and give the facade rhythm and softness.

Do certain architectural forms make us feel more at ease?
Research suggests that people often perceive higher ceilings and softer, curvilinear forms as more welcoming and inviting than spaces dominated by sharp, angular lines. Higher ceilings have been linked to feelings of openness and freedom, while curves may evoke comfort and approachability.

But wellbeing in design is rarely about absolutes. Different spaces support different psychological needs. Sometimes we seek openness and inspiration; at other times, intimacy, structure and refuge.

Perhaps the question isn't whether curves are better than corners, but how we use each thoughtfully to create environments that help people flourish.

A great morning on Wednesday, participating in this panel discussion on well-being in residential design. Thank you Abby Fox and LC-AV LTD for organising, and Jeff Haysward for moderating so beautifully! The conversation focused largely on the importance of lighting, both natural and artificial, and was a great reminder that, as architects, we are not expected to know everything 🤓 There are excellent consultants we can reach out to with the expertise. A quiet landing, warm wood tones, and daylight guided all the way to the basement. Light enters at the stair landing and travels down through the glazed floor to brighten the floor below. Paired with warm wood tones, it gives this mews house a calm, welcoming rhythm.
