Call from a customer who stated their bathroom downlights were not working even after replacing the bulbs. Upon inspection the first fitting I dropped (with the circuit isolated) the transformer was starting to melt!

Thankfully hadn’t started a fire, replaced all 3 fittings with new IP65 LED downlight fittings, tested and left in safe working order 👍

If you still have halogen fittings or have even retrofitted LED lamps into them, would struggle advise getting them replaced to prevent potential fires. Better yet an EICR should flag up potential issues like this.

Anyone else changing countless amounts of Type AC RCDs fit Type A RCDs at the moment?

For those unaware, changing from Type AC to Type A RCDs is necessary because modern household appliances (LEDs, computers, washing machines, EV chargers) introduce DC leakage components that can “blind” Type AC RCDs, preventing them from tripping during a fault.

An EICR can identify if this is an issue in your property or not ⚡️
