So this popped up on my personal page today and surprised me that it’s been seven years that I’ve been upholstering. Where does the time go?

I still remember my Grandad, Willie Cameron’s favourite saying “happy’s the man who can make a living from his hobby”. It’s so true, I’ve loved learning upholstery and taking the leap of setting up my own successful small business.

Although I still love to transform chairs and make cushions, unfortunately my body does not and the last seven years have really taken their toll.

I’m sure some of you already know, but for those that don’t, I’ve been struggling with fybromyalgia for the last couple of years.

Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition that causes widespread pain and extreme tiredness. It is very difficult to treat and often you are left to cope with only a repeat prescription and the advice to exercise.

I’ve tried everything from positive thinking to acupuncture, sea swimming to yoga. Some things have helped a lot like regular sessions with a herbalist and pacing activity some have helped less.

So, I’ve finally decided to put my health first and close my business for at least the next six months. Like most folk I’ve found it very difficult to admit defeat but have finally accepted that enough is enough. I need to rest my body and calm my mind away from the stress of being a one woman business.

I just want to say a sincere thank you to all my wonderful clients who I’ve enjoyed working with to transform their furniture. I’ve so loved being creative so thank you for that opportunity.

I’d also like to thank everyone who has liked my work, followed my page or recommended me to a friend or family member. This page has really helped promote my business and attract new work so thanks for being a follower. I really do appreciate your support.

So, that’s me for now. I’m hoping the rest will help me heal and that I’ll return in October with renewed strength and zest!

Meantime, enjoy your spring and summer. Fingers crossed we can all get out and about again soon with lockdown lifting.

Cheerio and heartfelt thanks - Ros x

Almost finished for the year ... one of my last jobs of 2020 delivered and all dressed up for Christmas.

This 3 seater Ercol sofa is looking beautiful in Val’s festive front room. I’m loving her handmade scatter cushions. So cosy and Christmassy.

Hope you’re not too rushed off your feet in the run up to the big day 🎄🎅🏃‍♀️. I’m trying my best to take it easier this year ...

A warming splash of orange to brighten up a dreicht afternoon 😊

Beautiful soft grey Designer’s Guild jumbo corduroy - my tip for interior trend in 2021. Looking lovely on my spruced up Ercol Windsor sofa and showing off my new design feature of a velcro tab to keep the cushions from sliding about.

I’ve made two of these contemporary style large sofa cushions for my lovely client’s two sofas in her family room. They’ll look fabulous with an eclectic mix and match of scatters. I made the two wee grey ones as part of the job - you can never have too many cushions, right? 😉

Quite a transformation for this classic Ercol 3 seater sofa and chairs. Think wee Buddy approves!

Another gorgeous Ercol transformation using Moon Wools in herringbone and plain fabrics in this beautiful sage colour way.

My fab client inherited this beautiful Springtime sofa complete with the original shaped cushions.

After much discussion we went for a more contemporary look with one big seat cushion and a couple of oversized cushions. I think the mix and match patterns on the different sides of the cushions really add something here - texture, variety and a chance to give a wee refresh to a sunny spot for a quiet cuppa or a catch up with friends.

Hope you get many years of enjoyment out your “new old sofa” Audrey Steel it’s been an absolute pleasure!
