From our portfolio: Eastwick Row, Hemel Hempstead

Creating more high-quality, affordable homes for the community, Eastwick Row is a new seven-storey development in Hemel Hempstead.

Working with Bugler, Sheriff Construction supported the final construction phase of this scheme, delivering the roofing package across 34 new one and two-bedroom apartments. While relatively small in scale compared with some of the developments in our portfolio, this was another project where careful coordination and quality delivery were key.

Take a closer look at our roofing team’s workmanship below. 👇

After weeks of exceptionally hot, dry weather, cooler temperatures may be on the way. But does that mean the fire risk has gone away?

With ground and vegetation still tinder dry in many areas, now is a good time for construction sites to take another look at their fire prevention measures.

In our latest blog, we highlight some of the most common fire risks on construction sites and five key areas that are especially worth reviewing following this prolonged spell of dry weather.

Read the full blog below.

After weeks of hot, dry weather, recent wildfires across the UK have provided a stark reminder of just how quickly fire can take hold. And while temperatures may be starting to fall, large parts of England remain affected by drought, leaving ground and vegetation exceptionally dry. Construction s

Could you help NOAH Enterprise by sharing your skills?

Following a recent meeting with NOAH Enterprise, we learned more about the fantastic work they do to support disadvantaged people across Bedfordshire, helping individuals to move out of homelessness, develop essential skills and take steps towards a more positive future.

NOAH would like to introduce woodwork classes for the people they support – but they need someone with the right skills and experience to help make it happen. They're looking for a volunteer woodwork tutor who could give a few hours of their time each week. You might be a current tradesperson keen to share your knowledge, or perhaps you're retired and have skills and experience that could make a real difference to others.

Volunteers will need to complete NOAH's usual onboarding process, including the relevant checks, but this could be a hugely rewarding opportunity for the right person.

Could you help – or do you know someone who might be interested?

Contact NOAH on 01582 728416 or email [email protected] to find out more. Or, if you would like to have a chat about the role with someone, email your contact details to [email protected] and she’ll be in touch.

And, if you do get involved after seeing our post, please let us know – we'd love to hear about it!

Helping local children get ready for the new school year

This summer, Sheriff Construction is proud to be supporting The Level Trust, a local charity that helps children and young people across Luton overcome the barriers of poverty. Alongside making a company donation, we've launched a school uniform drive at our office and are collecting good-quality uniform items to help local families prepare for the new school year.

If your children have recently outgrown their school uniform, we'd love to give those items a second life by passing them on to The Level Trust. New uniform essentials are also very welcome. Simply bring your donations to our office at Runfold Avenue any time you’re passing by over the coming weeks. Every donation, no matter how big or small, can make a real difference to a child starting school with confidence.

We'll share an update later this summer to let you know how the collection went.

Work experience update

Last week, we shared how we’ve been creating opportunities for young people to gain valuable experience at Sheriff Construction – including welcoming a Year 10 student and a post-A-Level student into our office.

That commitment to supporting future talent has continued with two further candidates recently joining us for interview and experience days with our Quantity Surveying team.

During their visit, they spent time with different members of the department, gaining an insight into the varied responsibilities of a Quantity Surveyor and seeing first-hand how the team works together to deliver projects.

We were impressed by the enthusiasm and positive attitude both candidates showed throughout the day and we're now hoping to welcome a new Apprentice Quantity Surveyor to the Sheriff team in the near future. Watch this space…

Making Tax Digital is here. But are you ready for the first quarterly deadline this Friday?

Around 864,000 self-employed people, including many construction subcontractors, are now expected to submit quarterly digital updates to HMRC under the new Making Tax Digital rules.

In our latest blog, we explain what the changes mean, who is affected and share practical resources to help you prepare before the first reporting deadline. Read the full blog below.

The first Making Tax Digital (MTD) quarterly update deadline – 7 August 2026 – is fast approaching and around 864,000 self-employed people, including many construction subcontractors, will need to submit their first digital update to HMRC. Making Tax Digital represents one of the biggest changes

This summer we’ve been welcoming students into our office for work experience opportunities.

Earlier in July, a local year 10 student joined us for a week, following a schedule that was designed to give him a broad understanding of each department in our organisation including administration, accounts, document control, buying, estimating and quantity surveying. Alongside having opportunities to learn about these various construction roles, our student fulfilled many practical tasks such as data entry, matching invoices to statements, fuel cost monitoring and joining team meetings.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve also been joined by Suada, a post-A-Level student who has largely been supporting our finance department with tasks such as invoice logging, purchase order tracking, data entry, document filing and bank reconciliation support. In addition, she has been supporting our sister company, Limon Homes, by contacting suppliers to find the best prices for the landlords’ bills and switching providers where appropriate.

Thank you to both students for their hard work and enthusiasm – we hope they found the experience valuable.

While a warm, dry summer might be ideal for outdoor work, it also brings increased challenges on construction sites when it comes to dust control.

Construction dust is often accepted as just part of the job. But does it have to be?

In our latest blog, we look at why dust control is especially important during the summer months, the health risks associated with respirable dust, and the practical measures contractors can take to keep sites safer, cleaner and more considerate.

Read the full blog below.

On a hot, dry summer's day, it doesn't take much for dust to become part of the job. A passing dumper, a quick cut through concrete or a few minutes of sweeping can send fine particles into the air. While it may seem little more than a nuisance, construction dust can pose serious risks to workers' h
