Full on garden clearance completed here recently with us having removed all the trees a few weeks previously.

3 new fences installed, new pedestrian gates, while we were installing one the neighbour asked about us installing one for him too - which we happily obliged.

2 grab lorries of waste and nearly 30 tonnes of spoil removed.

Transformation at Roman Park 🏡

We were asked to complete this transformation, and what a stunning result we have achieved!

There were a few surprises along the way. While grubbing everything out and excavating for the new boundary retaining wall, we uncovered a buried manhole, which was far from ideal. This had to be raised by 700mm to meet the finished patio level.

We also discovered a buried rodding point and another inspection chamber — all of which have now been carefully brought up to the new patio level and seamlessly incorporated into the finished surface.

The transformation included:

🔹 New retaining walls
🔹 Two bespoke side gates, built and installed
🔹 16 tonnes of waste excavated and removed
🔹 8 tonnes of topsoil brought in
🔹 60 metres of turf laid
🔹 Beautiful Blue Ice stone laid in the voids along the path to provide access to the patio
🔹 45m² of Castle Grey 900 x 600mm Indian sandstone
🔹 Finished beautifully with Titan Natural Resin Grout

From a challenging starting point to a completely transformed outdoor space — the finished result speaks for itself. 👌

Another project completed to the highest standard. 🧱🌿

Another beautiful driveway gate installation completed today in the centre of Monmouth. 🔨🌳

We installed this stunning pair of 8ft wide x 6ft tall Highampton Scandinavian Redwood Mortise & Tenon driveway gates, finished with substantial 9ft tall, 7” square English Oak hardwood posts.

The posts were set into 33” deep holes, with well over 100kg of Postcrete used in each hole to ensure they’re firmly secured and built to last. 💪

The gates were supplied by Ruby Group, with the Oak hardwood posts supplied by Lydney Park Sawmill. Post here being modelled by Chy to get the scale of it.

A fantastic combination of quality materials and traditional craftsmanship, creating a smart and substantial entrance for this property in Monmouth.

Another hedge removed today for a new driveway to a forthcoming garage conversion that is being converted into a separate dwelling in Cheltenham.

The customer also asked us to dig the trench and lay the twin wall ducting for the new mains supply. We also had to excavate a two cubic metre joint bay for National Grid to complete the works.

Few tonne of soil and stone piled up for the grab lorry and a few tonne of woodchip disposed of at a mates yard.

Easy day for me and Chy.

Few jobs done this week:

70 foot of 7 foot 6 fence and 3 gates in Ellwood.

A rear garden clearance in Milkwall and a complete garden rip out with 2 concrete bases and 80 metres of turf in Yorkley.

That was a busy few days.

This project had been planned for some time, with the client waiting until the main house build was nearing completion before progressing with the external works.

Works commenced 10 days ago with site clearance and excavation. Using a 1-tonne excavator, we removed the existing made ground, consisting of hardcore and imported fill that had previously been used to raise site levels. Approximately 300mm (12 inches) of material was excavated across an area of around 70m² and removed from site via grab lorry.

Following excavation, foundations were installed for a new retaining structure. Once cured, the retaining wall was constructed to establish and maintain the required finished levels throughout the garden.

The sub-base build-up then commenced, with approximately 20 tonnes of MOT Type 1 and clean drainage stone imported, spread and compacted in layers to provide a stable, free-draining foundation for the paving works.

The client supplied 70m² of Kandla Grey Smooth Sandstone, which was laid to the new patio areas on a full mortar bed, with levels and falls carefully set to ensure effective surface water management and compliance with best practice installation methods.

Additional works included the construction of a reinforced concrete base to accommodate a future hot tub installation, designed to provide adequate load-bearing capacity for the intended use.

To complete the project, approximately 70m² of quality turf was laid, creating a seamless transition between the paved areas and the lawn.

Overall, the project involved significant excavation, level reduction, retaining works, sub-base installation, paving, concrete works and landscaping to transform what was previously a raised, unfinished area into a practical and aesthetically pleasing outdoor space.

Special thanks to Darren and Graham at Severnside Sand and Aggregates for the digger and the endless trips in with aggregate and Daves bricklaying projects for giving us a week of his time to help us.

Couple of small jobs completed recently.

A dozen or so 50 foot conifers and a large goat willow removed from a property in Allaston.

A hedge reduction in Chepstow.

Some turfing jobs in Clearwell and Lydney and a small patio in Berry Hill.

Then some finishing touches to a large job in Yorkley to finish tomorrow morning. Nice to get Phase One of that project ticked off.

Another 30-post garden completed over 3 days 🔨

Removing the old concrete posts was a challenge on this one — each footing had around 60–70kg of concrete behind it. Instead of spending days breaking them out by hand, we used new machinery and lifting chains to pull them clean out 💪

We also designed and built a bespoke 1m-wide side gate for the customer. Wider than standard, but future-proofed to allow access for a mini digger and dumper if needed later on 👌

Smart planning = fewer headaches in the future. Another tidy job completed ✅

Driveway gates and a large summer house to complete here next.

Monumental job completed today at a property in Yorkley.

Another huge garden clear-out transformed into a fully tiered and functional outdoor space.

• 6 tiers built using hardwood timber sleepers
• 3 tiers laid with fresh turf
• 2 dedicated veg patch tiers
• Top tier created for a gravel and greenhouse area
• Every section separated with picket fencing for a clean, structured finish

A massive amount of work went into this one:
• 8 tonnes of topsoil moved in
• Over 50 sleepers installed
• Around 400 pickets used
• Countless hours and details to bring the whole project together

A proper team effort and a fantastic transformation from start to finish.
