This archway in Woodbury had weathered well considering it was built in 1867, sadly the engraving was incredibly hard to read. We were tasked with restoring the archway.

First task was redressing the stone, to bring back the sandstones natural colouring and finishing to be smooth finish for engraving.

The second task was cleaning and steam cleaning the stonework inside the arch. We use high temperature, low pressure steam to provide a gentle but effective clean for stonework.

The third and final task of the day was to engrave the old inscription back onto the archway. Due to only being given 1 day to complete the task, due to part of the closed road reopening, we used stencils to mark out the inscription and then hand carved the inscription. Making for a long day but the results speak for themselves.

The Starcross War Memorial was treated to a low pressure steam clean today. A method used to gently clean grade listed monuments, no chemicals, no abrasives, no high pressure washing. After a delicate repainting of the raised lead lettering the results speak for themselves.
