Amazing to see the Cobras pushing hard. Always great to support local youth teams ๐
Today the Cobras faced Davenham Rangers, a team thatโs won their first two games of the season. The teams played a few times last season so we knew it was going to be a tough one.
The Cobras got off to a perfect start with Harley slipping the ball to Ethan who slotted home in, what is becoming, a trademark low finish.
Davenham struck back almost instantly to make it 1-1 before Archie picked the ball up at the edge of their area and slammed it high into the net. What a goal and 2-1 after 8 minutes.
The game then seesawed for the next 20 minutes with both teams creating decent chances. Felix was able to find some space on the right and Archie got stuck in. Davenham had some good attacking players and threatened Morganโs goal too. The defence performed really well, with Zack, Lloyd, Harvey and Robbie having to do a lot of running back towards goal.
Momentum shifted in the last 10 minutes of the first half as the Cobras started to stand off the ball too much and allowed Davenhamโs good players to play. This paid off as Davenham found space in the box from two corners in the last 5 minutes of the half. 3-2 at half time.
We asked the boys to step up in the second half and they definitely did. Getting to the ball first and finding team mates with passes, much better play. Jacob putting in a shift on the right found Guy in our half who dropped his shoulder and drove into their midfield. A few passes later, Ethan was through on goal and forced their defence into a back pass.
Matthew stepped up to take the indirect free kick and after a gentle touch, Guy slammed it into the roof of the net. 3-3 after 50 minutes. The Cobras then really got a grip of the game with Harley and Elliot setting the tone with some great touches.
Guy picked up the ball again and slotted it through to Ethan. Ethan took a few touches and smashed it beyond their keeper. 4-3 to the Cobras with 10 minutes left.
Davenham started to pile on the pressure, forcing a foul on the edge of our area. Their player stepped up and hit it into the roof of the net. The game ending 4-4.
Overall a fair result against a really good team. The boys showed a lot of character in the second half, which is exactly what we asked for.
Coaches player of the match - Archie. Played a few different positions without complaining. And scored a quality long range goal.
Players player of the match - Ethan. Two more goals for the season. Opposition find it really difficult to play against him and showed this again today.
Well done Cobras!
