Our 08 Colts remain top of their league after an exceptional second half performance to see off Cliftonville in Belfast this morning.
The young Bannsiders had a first half to forget as Cliftonville where much the better side. The first blow was going down one nil very early on. Coleraine just couldn't get going and where constantly under pressure. They had to rely on keeper Cameron McAfee to keep them at just one nil. With twenty five minutes gone they suffered there second blow when right back Carter McAuley fell awkwardly on his hand and had to come off with which was later confirmed to be a broken wrist. With only 12 players available to them at the start of the match and now down to 11, the Coleraine lads needed to get to half time to regroup. Luckily enough they held out to go in still only one nil down.
Second half and it was like a new team. Coleraine were superior in every position and soon got their deserved equaliser when young Jack Hartin converted at the back post from a Harvey Campbell cross. 1-1 and Coleraine gathering momentum. Eight minutes later and after excellent pressing around the Cliftonville box, striker Jude Selfridge came out of a good challenge with the keeper after a back pass. With the ball veering wide he managed to get in into the net as the scrambled keeper watched on. 2-1 Coleraine, Cliftonville were now truly rattled.
Coleraine made it 3-1 when Calum Henry pounced on another Cliftonville mistake to get his shot sway. Scoring a goal which gives him 4 out of 5 for the season to date. As Coleraine tired Cliftonville pulled one back to make it a nervy few minutes. Again, Cameron McAfee with an excellent finger tip save to keep us in it!
At the final whistle the joy throughout the Coleraine players was something else. A really good second half turnaround that really took it out of every player. Fantastic today and well done all 👏😁
Few shouts for a man of the match today including the keeper but today it goes to the captain in the middle, Corey Elder. Excellent on and off the ball. Well done Cores 💪
