Hi everyone! Hope your all enjoying the nice weather!! I’ve just rewired a lighting circuit in an old flat in Maidenhead and the reason being the cables having plasticiser leaking out which is not good at all due to being flammable, sticky, toxic and an electrically conductive fluid so really the wiring is at the end of its life as the fluid amounts will increase over time. Its a basic reaction between the copper cabling and the old pvc sheath that occurs over time naturally. Todays job was to replace two existing ceiling lights in this taplow apartment hallway for 8 brand spanking new collingwood LED recessed down lights. As you can see no additional holes were required other than where the existing lights were already so a really nice job in the end!

Another consumer unit upgrade this time in Maidenhead. The box to the right was the original consumer unit with a part recessed metal back box with the original lighting, cooker and sockets all in metal conduit as the earth and therefore as the wiring is original the box had to be left intact with an earth connected to give all circuits a decent earth connection via the conduit. As standard all RCBO circuit protective devices and type 2 surge device installed.

Recent consumer unit upgrade in a property in Cookham. The previous consumer unit was located at floor level in a very inaccessible spot so no way to reset a blown fuse or gain access for testing, inspecting or even maintenance. As you can see a BG consumer unit was just the right size to fit the gap where the new unit had to be installed. Class 2 surge protection also installed as standard on all of our consumer unit upgrades/new installations in domestic properties.

If you are a landlord in the UK and are not currently getting your rental properties inspected and tested by an approved contractor (EICR - electrical installation condition report) then have a read of this link as you are required by law to get the fixed wiring inspected within or every 5 years depending on the re-test date issued from the previous inspection report. Do not forget the in service appliance testing (PAT) either! Hi everyone! We’ve been very busy the last few months what with all the landlords EICR’s and are continuing with them (aswell as our normal electrical contracts/clients work) well into the new year!
