The concept of a Raised Bed Garden was first written about in 1577 by Thomas Hill in a book titled The Gardeners Labyrinth and he explained that flowers and vegetables were grown in raised enclosed beds.

It’s the year 2026 and raised beds are still here today.

What I’m growing in mine in May:
* Jacket Potatoes
* Courgette
* Summer squash
* Celeriac
* Tomatoes
* Lettuce
* Broad Beans
* Red onions
* Garlic
* Chives.

Growing Fruit:
* loganberries
* Raspberries
* Blackberries
* Strawberries
* Apples
* Peaches

Where will your Garlic Growing adventures take you?

🧄 Plant Cloves = (Autumn) late Sept to December.

🌱 Grow = sit back and relax, garlic just grows itself, just plant and go!

🪏Harvest = This is the fun bit! Digging for victory (hopefully).

👩‍🍳 Cook = to retain the Allicin in garlic for its antioxidant benefits, only Stirfry or cook garlic lightly for under 30 mins. Roasting removes all the allicin completely.

It’s Garlic Week! There’s still time to plant your garlic cloves! Frozen ground? Then plant in pots. Today we have a comparison between Softneck Vs Hardneck Garlic. I’ve decided on a variety called Morano, it’s a Hardneck variety that does mind very cold weather. Let’s hope we don’t get a mild winter now! Which one have you chosen? I’d really love to know what varieties you are growing this year. Tell me in the comments below.

❄️ Frost Alert - ‼️ - UK - Get your tender veggies undercover!

Frost and cold temperatures are coming this week in the UK. Get yourself prepared ! Have you got Cold Hardy Veg or Tender Veg in the garden? Here’s how to identify whether you’ll need protection or not.

Here’s a few Cold Hardy Veg (they don’t mind the cold & frost):
🧄 Garlic,
🥕 Carrots,
🧅 Onions,
🥬 Cabbage,
Leeks & Parsnips.

Here’s a few vegetables that need wrapping up in a blanket (fleece):
🎃 Pumpkin & Squashes,

Vegetable Garden Jobs for November

Is there anything left to do in the Veg Garden or is it time to hibernate yet?

1. 🧹🍂 Clear up jobs - clear leaves, clear dead plants, clear the greenhouse.
2. ✂️🍏 Prune - prune dormant fruit trees between Nov & March. This is also the time to plant bare root fruit trees.
3. 🌱🥬 Sow Winter Lettuce, winter spinach, coriander, lambs lettuce and baby leaves in a trough in the greenhouse for winter leaves and herbs.
4. 🪏🌺 Dig up tender plants (that dont like frost) and put in the greenhouse overwinter.

* Garlic
* Autumn Planting Onions
* Shallots
* Elephant Garlic
* Winter Lettuce
* Winter Spinach
* Asian Greens
* Lambs Lettuce (or corn salad)
* Peas for overwintering
