睇住一班小朋友喺球場上奔跑、合作同互相支持，真係感受到好強嘅團隊精神。

有一刻覺得好熟悉，又有少少陌生。熟悉嘅係香港人之間嗰份連繫；陌生嘅係呢班小朋友已經喺英國長大，彼此之間自然用英文溝通。

但其實最重要嘅唔係語言，而係佢哋喺度搵到自己嘅興趣、建立自信，同埋認識一班志同道合嘅朋友。

5 年前種下嘅種子，今日已經慢慢成長為一個充滿凝聚力嘅社群。

希望 Konger 繼續成長，成為更多香港家庭同熱愛足球朋友嘅聚腳點。⚽❤️

Watching the children support one another and grow together on the pitch was inspiring.

Many of them now speak English naturally, having grown up in the UK, but what matters most is that they have found a community, built confidence, and developed friendships through football.

Five years on, Konger has become much more than a football club — it's a community.

睇住一班小朋友喺球場上互相支持、合作同鼓勵，真係感受到好強嘅團隊精神。當中有一刻覺得好熟悉，但又有少少陌生——熟悉嘅係香港人之間嗰份默契；陌生嘅係呢班喺英國成長嘅小朋友，彼此之間已經自然地用英文溝通，廣東話反而慢慢變得少咗。

不過語言未必係最重要，最重要嘅係佢哋都喺度搵緊自己嘅興趣、建立自信，同埋認識一班志同道合嘅朋友。

Konger 由成立至今已經 5 年，見證住好多小朋友由細踢到大，亦見證住唔少成年球員同球會一齊成長。呢種凝聚力其實好難得，特別係喺海外生活嘅香港人社群入面。

希望 Konger 可以繼續發展落去，成為一個屬於香港人嘅 Hub，讓熱愛足球、熱愛運動、熱愛社群嘅朋友，都有一個地方可以聚埋一齊。💪⚽

Watching the children interact, support one another, and work together on and off the pitch, it was clear to see the strong team spirit that has been built within the club.

There was a moment that felt both familiar and unfamiliar at the same time. Familiar because of the shared Hong Kong connection; unfamiliar because many of these children have grown up in the UK and naturally communicate in English rather than Cantonese.

Yet perhaps language is not the most important thing. What truly matters is that they are finding their passions, building confidence, and forming friendships with people who share similar interests and values.

Over the past five years, Konger has grown alongside its members. Many young players have developed through the club, while adult players have also grown together as part of the wider community. That sense of belonging and continuity is something truly special, especially within the overseas Hong Kong community.

I hope Konger continues to thrive and remain a hub where people who love football, community, and teamwork can come together. 💪⚽

🏡「我想整個 Porch！」🏡

其實 Porch 呢樣野，喺建築角度真係好有趣。
佢可以令成間屋外表即刻靚咗、立體咗、有氣勢咗✨
但如果比例、物料或者設計唔夾… 都可以令間屋變得「唔知想點」😅

一個設計得好既 Porch，唔單止提升外觀，仲可以令入口更加實用：
☔ 遮風擋雨
📦 放到包裹
👋 有個正式既 entrance feel
🏠 提升整體屋既 character

但問題就係：
究竟咩 Porch 襯咩屋？係咪所有屋都適合加？Planning / Building Regs 又做唔做到？Budget 又會影響到幾多？

今次特意拎咗一間 new build detached house 做 example 🏡
由最簡單既 canopy、傳統 brick porch，到 double height front extension，唔同 budget 其實會帶嚟完全唔同既可行性同效果。

而有時做到最後…
個 Porch 已經唔再係 Porch 😆
直接變成 front extension！

🏡 “I want to build a porch!” 🏡

From an architectural point of view, a porch can completely change the appearance of a house.
It can make a property look more welcoming, more balanced, and add real character ✨
…but if the design, proportion, or materials don’t suit the house, it can also make things feel a bit awkward 😅

A well-designed porch is not just about looks — it can also improve functionality:
☔ Shelter from rain
📦 Space for deliveries
👋 A more defined entrance
🏠 Better kerb appeal and overall character

But the real question is:
What type of porch suits what type of house?
How feasible is it in terms of planning and building regulations?
And how much difference does budget make?

For this example, I used a typical new build detached house 🏡
From a simple canopy, to a traditional brick porch, all the way to a double-height front extension — different budgets can lead to completely different possibilities and outcomes.

And sometimes…
what starts as “just a porch” slowly becomes a full front extension 😆

🔥 個 Extension 就嚟完工啦～而家開始安裝 Under Floor Heating 👣 如果本身有考慮做地暖，其實做 Extension 會係一個非常適合一齊規劃做唔做嘅時機 😊

好多業主都會到工程後期先開始諗暖氣系統，但其實地暖最好係設計初期就一齊考慮。因為唔同類型嘅地暖系統，所需要嘅 floor build-up 厚度都唔同，會直接影響：
• 地台高度
• 趟門 / Patio door 高度
• 室內外 level access 無障礙設計
• 完成後有冇「級差」問題 🌿

特別係而家好多現代 extension 都想做到大玻璃門＋室內外地台齊平，如果太後期先決定做 UFH，好容易影響設計甚至需要妥協。

另外，UFH 本身都有唔同系統：
✔️ 電地暖（Electric UFH）
通常比較薄，安裝簡單，但長遠電費會較高

✔️ 水地暖（Water-based UFH）
通常需要較深 floor build-up，安裝成本較高，但長遠運行成本一般會較低

所以其實唔單止係價錢問題，仲要一齊考慮：
💰 預算
⚡ 長遠運行成本
🛠 維修保養
📐 地台結構及門口細節

好嘅設計，往往就係由呢啲「睇唔到嘅細節」開始 😊

🔥 Thinking about an extension?
It might also be the perfect time to consider Underfloor Heating (UFH) 👣

A lot of people only think about heating near the end of the project — but actually, UFH is something best considered at the early design stage.

Why? Because different types of underfloor heating systems come with different floor build-up depths, which can affect:
• Internal floor levels
• Threshold details
• Patio / sliding door heights
• Level access to the garden 🌿

Especially for modern extensions with large glazing and flush thresholds, planning this early can avoid awkward step-ups or design compromises later on.

There are also different types of UFH systems to suit different budgets and project types:
✔️ Electric UFH – thinner build-up, easier installation, but higher running costs
✔️ Water-based UFH – usually deeper floor build-up and higher installation cost, but often more efficient for long-term use

Every project is different, so it’s important to balance:
💰 Initial budget
⚡ Running cost
🛠 Maintenance
📐 Floor construction requirements

Good design is not just about how it looks — it’s also about planning the hidden details early 😊

🏡✨ EduKei 創意建築工作坊 ✨🏡

ArchiKei 成立幾年以來，一直專注於家居空間設計與改造，陪伴好多家庭一齊打造理想中嘅生活空間。慢慢發現，唔少香港家庭移居英國，其實都係希望小朋友可以喺更自由、更開放嘅環境下成長。
作為建築師，我一直思考：除咗設計房屋之外，我仲可以將咩價值帶俾下一代？

我相信，最重要嘅，係「創意」、「空間思維」同「Design Thinking 設計思考」✨所以，EduKei 就誕生啦。

EduKei 個名讀音同 “Educate” 相近，希望將教育（Education）同 Kei 嘅創意理念結合，透過建築、藝術同創作，為小朋友帶嚟更多想像空間同創新思維。

我哋希望小朋友可以透過「玩」去接觸設計與建築，用雙手探索、想像、創作。唔一定要成為 architect，但希望佢哋可以學識觀察身邊空間、表達自己想法、勇於提出新 ideas 💡

正所謂「薪火相傳」，希望可以將自己小小嘅建築藝術知識，化成創意火花，點亮下一代嘅想像力 ✨

今個夏天前，我哋將會喺 Forest Preparatory School 舉辦一系列兒童建築創意工作坊，暫定設有兩個年齡組別，之後亦會再推出更多暑假主題活動 ☀️

最近有個project，客人決定想喺車房上面加多一層，同主屋打通，多返一個房間 🏡

撇除Planning 批唔批到之外，技術上做唔做到都係另一個好重要既問題! 而家個車房地基，托唔托得到新增嗰層重量？因為好多舊式車房，本身只係預咗做單層用途，地基深度、闊度，甚至結構方式，都未必足夠支撐多一層建築。

咁點樣知道得唔得？
答案就係做 Trial Pit（試坑） 👷🏻‍♀️

Trial Pit其實就係喺現有建築物附近小心挖開地下，檢查而家個 foundation（地基）有幾深、幾闊、用咩物料，再由 Structural Engineer 判斷可唔可以承受新結構。

有時結果會發現原有地基足夠，可以直接起
但都有唔少情況係：
⚠️ 地基唔夠，需要 underpinning（托底加固）
⚠️ 或者要用其他結構方法處理
所以好多時加建工程，唔係「畫到圖」就代表一定起到 。真正落到地，仲要睇現場結構情況。

Recently, we had a project where the client wanted to build an additional storey above their existing garage and connect it back to the main house to create an extra bedroom 🏡

But aside from whether Planning Permission would be approved, there’s another very important question:

👉 Structurally, is it actually possible?

A lot of older garages were originally designed as single-storey structures only. The existing foundations may not be deep or wide enough — and the structural setup itself may not have been designed to support the extra weight of another floor.

So how do we find out?
The answer is by carrying out a Trial Pit investigation 👷🏻‍♀️

A Trial Pit basically involves carefully excavating near the existing structure to inspect the foundation:
• How deep it is
• How wide it is
• What material it’s made from

A Structural Engineer can then assess whether the existing foundation is capable of supporting the proposed new structure.

Sometimes the result is great news the existing foundations are sufficient and the extension can proceed directly.

But in many cases:
⚠️ The foundations may be inadequate and require underpinning (foundation strengthening)
⚠️ Or an alternative structural solution may be needed.

That’s why with extension projects, just because something can be drawn on a plan doesn’t always mean it can physically be built 😅
The real answer often depends on what is happening underground.

做左好多單Project，遇過好客 / 方向客，我一直相信只要用心去做唔好下下乜野都計住, 其他consultant只想付出30% 咁我就做70%啦. 其實係唔係冇所謂? 只係想最後個project出到世, 大家開心就好了。

有一個客佢叫我幫佢設計畫圖入則，正常D客會好在意幾時再俾下期payment，但呢個客一野就過晒錢俾我... 我問佢時佢話 ：「唔緊要啦, 反正最後都要俾! 」 可能就係呢份信任, 令我對佢既project更加上心。 3月尾順利裝修好晒，但BC就話原來佢admin做漏野冇交份文件去報消防，到14日後消防返黎既comments係冇交齊文件，但明明都已經俾晒admin，之後來來回回一拖再拖，就係咁呢個客人無啦啦等開張等多左2個月。

當你投入去做一件事你就會將心比心，見到客人每日咁無奈，我比佢更加想快啲D走出困局出到certificate。每日唔係打電話就email追，我諗呢間BC D人應該Black list左我，不過唔緊要—
最後最後，今日終於等到了。終於可以正式開鋪！！🥹

有時做建築、做設計，唔單止係畫圖入申請咁表面。更多係陪住客人，一齊捱過中間好多你估唔到嘅事。唔係個個客人都會體諒了解，有D只會責怪，有D就會不停doubt你要你解釋令你個心好攰。所以呢個project會令我咁落力去做，其中一個原因，就係因為佢嘅信任。有時一句「唔緊要，我相信你。」真係足以令人想付出更多。感謝你嘅信任。

Over the years, I’ve worked on many projects and met all kinds of clients — some amazing, some difficult. But I’ve always believed that if you truly care about your work, you shouldn’t calculate every little thing.

If other consultants only want to give 30%, then maybe I’ll give 70%.
Does it really matter in the end?
To me, the most important thing is seeing the project come to life and everyone being happy with the result.

One client asked me to help design, prepare drawings and handle the applications for their shop. Normally, clients are very careful about when to release the next stage payment, but this client transferred the full payment upfront straight away.

I even asked, “Are you sure?”

And they simply replied:
“It’s okay… you’ll get paid eventually anyway.”

Maybe it was that level of trust that made me care even more deeply about this project.

By the end of March, the shop fit-out had already been completed smoothly. But then Building Control realised their admin team had failed to submit a document to the Fire Authority. After waiting another 14 days, the Fire Service came back saying documents were missing — even though everything had already been provided to the admin team before. From there, things went back and forth endlessly, and the client suddenly had to delay their opening for another two months.

When you truly invest yourself into a project, you naturally start putting yourself in your client’s shoes. Seeing how helpless and frustrated they felt every day honestly made me want the Completion Certificate even more than they did.

So during that time, every single day was either phone calls or emails chasing updates. I’m pretty sure the Building Control team has blacklisted me by now 😂 But honestly… I didn’t care. Because finally, today, they got it. They can officially open their shop now!! 🥹

Sometimes architecture and design are not just about drawings and applications on the surface.
A huge part of it is standing beside your clients and helping them get through all the unexpected challenges in between.

Not every client understands the process.
Some blame you. Some constantly doubt you and ask you to explain yourself over and over again until you feel emotionally exhausted. That’s why one of the reasons I worked so hard on this project was because of their trust.

Sometimes, hearing a simple sentence like: “It’s okay, I trust you.”
is enough to make someone want to give even more.

終於趕得切喺 Summer 前完成呢個花園屋 project ☀️🏡
由設計、申請、施工到最後完成，每一步都充滿挑戰，但見到成果真係好值得。

多謝 builder 團隊努力趕工、多謝客人一路既信任同配合、多謝Planning 順利批核，仲有最重要既…英國竟然肯俾好天氣我地 😂🌤️ 多謝晒

Finally completed this garden house project just before summer ☀️🏡

From design and planning to construction and final completion, every stage came with its own challenges — but seeing the finished result makes it all worthwhile.

A huge thank you to the builder team for the hard work, thank you to the client for the trust throughout the process, thank you Planning for the smooth approval, and most importantly… the British weather for actually cooperating for once 😂🌤️
