🌸 How one pair of bedside cabinets led to another… 🌸
I love it when a piece of furniture becomes the beginning of a much bigger story.
Jean first contacted me after falling in love with a pair of lilac botanical bedside cabinets I'd created. She bought them for her bedroom in her new home in Scotland.
But then plans started to evolve… 😊
Jean was planning a beautiful wisteria mural for her guest bedroom and realised the lilac cabinets would be absolutely perfect with it.
Which left us with another bedroom to think about!
For her own bedroom, Jean had chosen a beautiful Laura Ashley floral wallpaper, and she asked if I could find another pair of bedside cabinets and create something especially to complement it.
So the search began.
Eventually I found just the right pair — beautiful traditional cabinets with drawers, cupboards, turned detailing and lots of potential. After a 60-mile round trip to collect them, they arrived back at my workshop and the transformation began.
Jean chose a soft Duck Egg blue, picking up the tones within her wallpaper, and from there we developed her own little botanical garden. 🌿
There were lots of conversations, photographs and mock-ups along the way — moving flowers, adding stems and blossoms, butterflies and a little bee — until the two cabinets began to feel like two sides of the same garden.
They're deliberately not identical.
One is exuberant and joyful, filled with deeper pinks and florals. The other is softer, more delicate and romantic. Yet when they're placed together, they belong.
When Jean finally saw them finished, she told me:
“We can't stop looking at them… They really are works of art.”
Those words meant an awful lot. 💙
And now the story comes full circle.
The lilac pair will eventually sit alongside that wonderful wisteria mural in the guest bedroom, while these blue botanical cabinets were created especially for Jean's bedroom and her Laura Ashley wallpaper.
Two bedrooms. Two very different botanical schemes. And four pieces of furniture that started with one message asking about a pair of lilac bedside cabinets. 💜💙
This is one of my favourite parts of offering a bespoke service. You don't necessarily need to find the perfect piece of furniture yourself. If you have an idea, a colour, a wallpaper sample — or simply a feeling for how you'd like a room to look — I can help source the furniture and develop the design with you.
