You must bring ID to recycle scrap metal at Singleton's to comply with the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 - this law prevents thieves from selling stolen metal.

Reports of scrap metal theft are on the rise 📈

In the period December 2025 – February 2026, metal theft had increased by 114% when compared to the same period the previous year.*

At Singleton's we help combat this crime by always asking for your identification and bank details when you bring your scrap metal to us.

In accordance with legal requirements, we ask for proof of identity for anyone selling scrap to help to deter metal thieves from selling their stolen scrap metal and to protect local scrapyards from criminal activity.

Do you know how to recycle your batteries safely? 🪫

A scrap metal yard in Yapton is encouraging people to remove batteries from devices when recycling after a fire broke out due to non-permitted Lithium-ion and NiCad batteries.

The fire and rescue service said that "Incidents like this are becoming more common in the recycling industry."

To safely discard waste batteries, you can use a battery collection point often found at your local supermarket. Alternatively, you can take waste electrical products to your local household waste recycling centre, where they should be segregated from other types of waste.
