Boiler manufacturers long warranties are no longer worth the paper their written on everyone. Couple of jobs over the last month to share with you.
1st job- warranty cancelled because of the quality of central heating water.
The engineer baffles customer with parts per million contamination figures. 750ppm is not very much at all when the tap water you drink is tested and is 220 ppm. When you strip away the science and look at it logically you find it rather insulting. Your paying for boiler protection monthly for piece of mind by the manufacturer of the boiler. When the boiler breaks down they come out and blame the installer or system water.
This customer had to then pay me £250 to powerflush the heating circuit prior to her repair. Here's what that looks like as before and after flush samples.
The black debris on the magnet is the total magnetic contamination I could pull out of the system using a power flushing machine and high strength magnet and would certainly not in anyway cause a modern boiler to break down. There have been a few changes behind the scenes and manufacturers are now testing system water for inhibitor levels. If there is none there or a reduced level you can guess what happens, warranty void.
It's now put on the service engineer to check levels and dose up on service visits and that is unfortunate because good quality inhibitor is the best part of £15 a litre and the test kit a few more quid so if your getting your in warranty boiler serviced every year for £50 then it's not being done. If you have drained it to move a radiator or carry out maintenance and not replaced the inhibitor you can guess what happens, warranty void.
This was a group service visit that declined the repair who are Vaillants and glowworm's in house service department.
Poor form when your paying upwards
of 1k for their white box.
