Bathroom taping is now fully completed! The internal corners are still slightly wet, so we’ll leave everything to dry properly and return tomorrow to begin sanding. 🚿

The areas that will be tiled are treated differently: one clean coat is enough, with no sanding required. They’re already prepared and ready for the tiler. 🧱

Knowing where to stop is just as important as knowing how to finish—there’s no benefit in completing unnecessary work. Work smart, not hard! 👌

How many screws should be fixing a ceiling board? In this video, I bring out the tape measure—even though experienced fixers rarely need one for this job! 📏😄

Years ago, we worked with 6 screws at the board ends and 5 in each remaining row. On this commercial new-build apartment project in Trafford, the fixing pattern is 7 at the ends and 6 in each row. Always follow the current project specification and system manufacturer’s guidance. 🔩

A few extra screws take hardly any time, but they help provide better support and lasting quality. It’s a small detail that can make a big difference—so don’t be shy with the screw gun! ✅

One moment could have changed everything. This near miss happened while an operative was working from a stepladder above steel stairs—a fall could have caused a life-changing or fatal injury. This time, everyone walked away. ⚠️

Site induction matters, but it is only the beginning. Before working at height, review the RAMS, assess whether the task can be completed from ground level and select the safest suitable access equipment. A stepladder is only appropriate for low-risk, short-duration work when the risk assessment justifies it. 🪜

Look after the people around you. If you see an unsafe setup, stop and challenge it. Apply every control required by the approved method—including proper stabilisation or a spotter where specified—rather than simply standing nearby. 🦺

Would you want to board this cupboard back together? 😅

Here’s a quick progress update from our water-damage refurbishment project in Manchester City Centre. The damaged section was cut out neatly, the metalwork was reinstated, and now comes the awkward part—boarding everything back around a live boiler and live pipework with almost no working space. 🔧

Remedial dry-lining is rarely straightforward. Accurate measurements, careful cutting and plenty of patience are essential when the services must remain live and protected. 📐

And yes—we checked the mastic too! It was safely within its expiry date because the small details still matter, even on the most awkward jobs. ✅

Honestly, I hope I never have to do another job like this…but at least we know it can be done properly! 😂

Where has all the sanding dust gone? This is drywall sanding with virtually no visible dust in the room! 👀

For this stage, we’re using the Hilti DWS 225 long-neck drywall sander connected to the Hilti VC 20M-X M-Class dust extractor. The important detail is the abrasive: we use the correct Hilti mesh sanding discs designed for this system—not standard sanding pads. 🛠️

The mesh allows dust to pass through the entire disc and into the extractor, helping keep the air clearer and significantly reducing the cleanup afterwards. However, no visible dust does not replace the correct PPE and site risk assessment—especially during prolonged sanding. 😷

How do you reinstate the back of a bathroom POD party wall when the POD itself cannot be moved? This water-damage repair in Manchester City Centre required a carefully planned solution. 🧠

We accessed and boarded the rear face of the party wall from the adjoining apartment. It was a tricky process and certainly not the ideal working position—but it allowed us to reinstate the construction without disturbing the POD unit. 🛠️

Using a different approach could have turned this repair into an extremely expensive operation. Sometimes experience means finding a practical way to preserve the required wall specification while controlling disruption and costs. ✅

Every dryliner has their own way of working, so I’ve got a couple of questions for you all… 🤔

When you’re fixing pattresses on 2nd fix, do you put a few extra screws through the plasterboard into the pattress, or do you just leave it mechanically fixed? Maybe those extra screws aren’t even necessary… what’s your opinion? 👀

I also marked the radiator pipe positions on the plasterboard before fixing it, just to make sure I don’t accidentally put a screw through a pipe. It only takes a minute, but it could save a lot of headaches later. Do you do the same, or do you think it’s a waste of time? 😅

Just the final coat to internal corners left, then our aim is to complete primer and mist coat tomorrow. 🎯

Job is nearly done, but it is still a bit early to relax — we can do that properly once the project is handed over. 😄
