🏠 Stretford Roof Replacement

What a joy it was to work on this project. Some jobs, when quoting, you really want to make sure you do enough to win — and this was certainly one of them.

A HUGE transformation on this stunning Victorian property in Stretford.

The old concrete tiles had stripped away much of the building’s character, and several roofing elements had failed over time. Our goal was to restore its original character while upgrading performance with modern systems.

✔️ Replaced the roof with reclaimed slates, bringing the character back to life
✔️ IKO collared dry ridge system – retains the traditional look with modern, maintenance-free performance (no pointing required)
✔️ Brand-new timber mouldings to the front elevation after years of water damage caused rot
✔️ New chimney stack using locally sourced traditional brick, finished with two reclaimed Crown Victorian pots in excellent condition
✔️ 3 × Heritage Velux top-hung windows to maximise space and light to the rear room
✔️ All new fascia, ogee guttering and downpipes
✔️ New GRP roof to the front bay window

**Denton Re-roof**

Another one complete for and the team!

The old slate roof had reached the end of the road, showing signs of age and wear. We’ve upgraded it to a Marley modern tile roof that’s built to last and looks great too.

**Denton GRP Roof**

New system installed on the rear extension. This job was done in conjunction with the main reslate a few weeks back.

As seen, the extension roof was well past its lifespan and was leaking heavily into the clients kitchen. New 150mm kingspan, with new firrings as the original had rotten due to the damaged roof. Standard build up of 18mm OSB, GRP resin with 450gram matting and finished with topcoat and new rear lead chase flashing.

We also replaced all the plastic on the property as the client was looking for a full refresh of the rear ready for new render in a couple of months. New rainwater goods, with new waste and soil stack changed giving the rear a well needed uplift!

**Carrbrook Reslate**

Throwback... (Monday) this was a reslate we carried out last year.

Small terrace which was well past its lifespan. The original roof from when this property was built in 1910. This is extremely common in the area with the original nails failing, battens rotten, no felt underneath the slates, then leading to constant issues for the homeowners.

If you’re unsure on the age of your roof, there’s a quick way to inspect from inside the loft which gives you an indication.

• If there is no felt underneath the slates/tiles, the roof is likely to be pre 1930s/post World War II.
• Bitumen felt then followed until around 1980s, but was stopped due to its poor durability and sweating of the roofs.
• Reinforced plastic felt then followed for the next decade which was good as a water barrier where required, but also caused a lot of condensation to build up on the underside of the felt leading to more issues internally.
• Early 1990s was when breathable membranes were introduced and is still the main roofing membrane used as a roofing standard on all replacements. There are many benefits of breathable membranes from moisture management, protect insulation and structural elements from dampness and rot, improve indoor air quality by allowing moisture v***r to escape while blocking water and wind, plus many more.

**Denton Reslate**

Recently completed a full reslate on this terrace house in Denton. The overall roof condition on this property was extremely worn and certainly in need of a full restoration.

• Full reslate
• New bonding gutters installed to the neighbour side
• New leadwork to the main chimney
• Repoint and flaunch of the main chimney
• New fascia, gutter & downpipes
• Installed 300mm of loft insulation

**Ashton GRP Roof**

Completed a full GRP roofing system on this one.
The existing roof structure had severe timber decay due to the previous roof failing - joists were rotten beyond repair. We installed new 18mm OSB boards and installed new structural joists to restore integrity.

Kingspan was fitted between the joists to help the properties thermal performance, and we finished with a fully bonded GRP roofing system for a seamless, watertight finish.

**Trafford Bay Window**

This bay roof was part of a larger refurbishment we completed on an apartment building in Trafford late last year.

One of the most common questions I get from contractors and roofers is: What’s the best flat roofing product? Truth is, they all have their place in the industry. Personally, I lean towards GRP, and when done right, I believe it’s the best overall—especially for domestic projects.

While I now prefer Restec as a supplier, this particular job was completed using Cure It.

**Hale Parapet Cappings**

It’s definitely nice to do something different for a change. Leaving Australia a few years ago, I haven’t done much metal work so it was nice to dust the tools off.

The roof on the house was only 5 years old and the original GRP roof had failed causing water ingress around the perimeter.

New 18mm OSB boards installed around the top of the parapet, with new Anthracite Grey powder coated steel installed around the perimeter.
