We recently finished fitting this kitchen for a customer in March.

The new flooring is still to be laid, but we thought we'd share a few photos of the kitchen now everything else is in place.

It's a simple, modern kitchen that's made a real difference to the space.

It's always nice to help bring back original features.

We were recently asked to help with an Edwardian property where the hallway had previously been modernised with wall panelling. Once the panelling was removed, the homeowners wanted to restore the original look by continuing the existing picture rail and skirting down the hallway.

The problem was that they couldn't find mouldings that matched the originals.

They gave us small offcuts, so we were able to machine matching profiles in our workshop. We matched the original mouldings and helped preserve the character of an older home.

5 Signs Your Timber Windows Need Attention🪟

One of the questions we’re asked most is whether old timber windows can be repaired or whether they need replacing. It’s something we discuss with customers quite regularly because every window is different.

Some can be repaired and go on to last for many more years. Others have reached the point where replacement is the better option. Knowing the difference isn’t always obvious though.

Some of the signs we look for include:
• Peeling or flaking paint
• Soft or rotten timber
• Draughts or water getting in
• Windows that stick or won’t close properly
• Failed glazing or loose putty

We’ve put together a guide explaining what these signs could mean, when repairs are worthwhile and when replacement is the better long-term solution.

We don't often post about new machinery, but we've recently upgraded to a router table with a digital rise and fall system. It makes setting up quicker and allows us to adjust the cutter with a much higher level of accuracy.

In this video, we're using it to machine a moulding for some traditional timber windows.

Although we invest in modern equipment where it makes a difference, it's still experience and attention to detail that produce a good result. Every piece is still carefully set up, machined and checked in our workshop before it leaves us. It's all about using the right tools to produce the best possible result.

Media walls are probably the project we're asked about most at the moment, so we've put together a dedicated page on our website explaining how we design and build them.

Whether you're settling down for a family film night, hosting friends, watching live sport or simply relaxing after work, a well-designed media wall brings everything together in one place.

Every media wall we create is designed around the room, the home and how the space is used. From the initial design through to installation, we manage the whole project, giving you one point of contact from start to finish.

The projects in these photos show just how different each one can be. Some feature a clean plastered finish with an integrated fireplace, while others include oak slatted panels, LED lighting and built-in shelving. No two media walls are the same because no two homes are the same.

If you're thinking about adding a bespoke media wall to your home in Cambridgeshire, you'll find the link to our new service page in the comments.

These bespoke bi-fold doors solved a problem the client had been dealing with for years.

The original doors between the kitchen and lounge opened into the room, making it awkward to move between the two spaces when they were open. The client wanted to keep the ability to separate the rooms but without the doors getting in the way.

We built a set of made-to-measure bi-fold doors in solid sapele hardwood, with each panel traditionally mortised and tenoned together and secured with wedges for strength and durability.

The doors fold neatly out of the way when open, making it much easier to move between the kitchen and lounge, while still providing separation when needed.

The client chose hardware to match the rest of their home and will be painting the doors.

A day late but we thought it was still important to say.

KMP is a family business in the truest sense. Karl had spent more than 45 years in the trade and taught Bryn everything he knows. Today, they work side by side, building projects they are proud of.

I get to see a different side of it, keeping things moving behind the scenes, but it’s all about experience, craftsmanship and knowledge being passed from one generation to the next.

Happy belated Fathers Day, Dad. Thanks for everything you’ve taught us❤️

This floor in Christchurch had a serious woodworm problem throughout the joists and floorboards, so a full replacement was the only sensible option from the start.

We stripped everything back, removed the old joists and floorboards completely and put in a new structural floor using treated timber joists and chipboard decking ready for the carpet to go down.

Woodworm damage like this is not always obvious from the surface. If your floor feels soft, bouncy or uneven in places, it is always worth getting it looked at properly.

A new chapter for KMP 🔨

After a busy few weeks, we're finally settled into our new workshop. The space has been organised properly and everything now has a proper home, which should mean a lot less time searching for tools.

The move also felt like the perfect opportunity to update our uniforms to reflect the branding refresh we introduced last year.

Everything is now in place and we're looking forward to what comes next. Thank you to everyone who continues to support KMP, exciting things ahead.
