Raw steel beams delivered to SDM HQ mark the humble beginnings of a fresh new SDM build. Although, humble might not be the right word for a near 18-metre steel beam weighing in close to five tonnes.

It takes a powerful forklift to move it, an HGV with a talented driver and articulated trailer to transport it plus a heavy duty crane and experienced operator to lift into position, and that’s before the beam has undergone any of the key processes that transform it into a true usable structural element.

Behind each beam is a dedicated team of expert drivers, welders, designers, and craftsmen, all contributing to its journey from raw steel to a critical component of a steel structure.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be taking you behind the scenes to show you what makes SDM a standout partner for your build.
