That's a wrap folks. Schools out for Christmas, so no alarm clock, nor any programmed works until the 6th Jan.

Which just leaves me my annual message of thanks to all my past, present and future clients for your support of an independent business.

We hope you have a fantastic break over the Christmas & New Year period, whatever way you to choose to spend it and that 2026 rewards you all with health & happiness.

Take care folks :-)

Faulty stopvalve replaced and the leaking loo sorted. While the cistern was off, it made sense to renew all the components to ensure it's trouble free for quite some time.

The clicker waste was jammed shut and had corroded itself to the brass bottle trap by some kind of chemical reaction between the dissimilar metals. Try as I might l, I could not get it undone so I had no choice but to cut it off and start again....

In an ideal world you'd use brass screws for fixing down toilets as they don't rust. 2 & 1/2" 12's were generally the screw of choice, although sometimes I find they don't bite well enough so a 3" 12 is needed. Anyway, the two boxes I had were pretty much empty so I've had to order some more. I knew they weren't cheap the last time I bought some but I wasn't ready to part with the kind of money now required for what is generally considered as 'ancillary van stock'. Fortunately a good trawl of the Internet threw up a few 'new old stock' options for perhaps a 50% saving on brand new stuff, and, in my opinion a better product, certainly the Nettlefolds which I seem to recall from my time as an apprentice all those years ago, were the go to brand of screws.

There's only four weeks of school time left in 2025. So Friday 19th December will be my last day of programmed work this year. I'll be off until the start of the next school term which will be 6th Jan 2026.

New stopvalves aren't as long as the old ones so a new piece of pipe needed too.

Public liability sorted for another year. £684.35. And every days a school day eh? Turns out even if you're insured as a plumber & heating engineer, you're not covered for bathroom installation unless you add it on as an additional trade!!

Had a lovely job this week to supply & fit some new radiators. Just scrolling through the phone and the only pictures I took were of the brackets on the bedroom rad where the wall was giving me some concern. Ended up putting four heavy duty hollow wall anchors in each bracket, just to be sure!
