Well, this made our week.

We've been nominated for Top Trades category at the Deepings Business Awards 2026 and honestly, it means a lot.

We're a local firm doing local work. Rewires, fault-finding, EV chargers, the odd emergency callout on a Sunday. Nothing flashy. So to be put forward by the people we work for and alongside in the Deepings is something we're pretty chuffed about.

Myth: Story Electrical just does EV charger installs.

Busted.

Here's a Grade I listed building where we've just run in a new 4-core SWA and earth cable for a 200A supply.

Hard to believe a building this size has been running off a 100A single phase supply.

We've been on this project a few years now, slowly helping bring the building back to life for a new family to enjoy.

Heritage buildings need a different approach, routing, fixing methods, and consent all have to be considered before a single cable goes in. It's slower, more thought-out work, and we love it.

Remember my post about the customer who got quoted an outdoor 13A socket to charge his car? Well, look what he got instead. And he's certainly pleased with the outcome.

Job done, customer chuffed, and a proper EV charger sat where a fire hazard was almost bolted to his wall.

Instead of a domestic socket never designed to take the daily punishment of vehicle charging, he's now got a Rolec EVO EV charger installed properly and safely. Full protection built in: an SPD to guard against surges, and a bidirectional RCD to catch faults a standard RCD would miss entirely. No overloaded ring main. No degrading socket. No "hope for the best."

This is the bit that gets lost when people chase the cheapest quote: an EV charger installed properly isn't just about compliance, it's about a system that's actually designed to do the job for years, not weeks.

He went from being seriously alarmed at what he'd nearly had installed, to genuinely relieved and delighted with what he ended up with. That's the whole job in a nutshell.

Three reviews. Two weeks. One Story.

There's a moment on every EV charger install that customers rarely see coming, it's not the fixing of the unit to the wall, it's everything that happens after.

This month, three different customers took the time to tell us what stood out. And interestingly, it wasn't just the chargers.
Gerard at Interlace had us supply and install two Rolec Zura dual chargers at their workplace in Linton. Mandy had her Rolec fitted at home and, in her words, couldn't be happier with the service. And James? Another happy EV driver on the road! ⚡🚗

This one's a bit special. Working alongside our friends at Ohme, we had an enquiry from a lady living in an apartment with her own dedicated parking spot — and like many flat owners, she thought getting an EV charger just wasn't possible.

Not on our watch! 💪

We helped her apply for the government grant for flat owners and renters (yes, that's a real thing — and it saved her money!), then got to work installing her charger by coming off her incoming supply. With the help of EV Blocks and EV Tower, the finished result looks fantastic.

There was plenty of back and forth with the building management company along the way, but we handled all of that too — and today the charger went in. One very happy customer! 😊

Nearly finished on this workplace EV charger install, and it's been a good one! ⚡

We've fitted 2 x dual Rolec Zura 7.4kW chargers, giving this customer 4 charging points for their staff.

Best bit? We saved them a load of money by running the cable tray around their fence instead of digging up the yard with expensive groundworks. 👍

Each member of staff gets a key fob, so the business can see exactly who's charged what — ideal for their salary sacrifice scheme.

They also got £2,000 off through the Workplace Charging Scheme grant, and the EV blocks with stands gave us a really tidy, secure fixing.

Just the barriers left to go in and it's job done. 💪

What a year it's been for the Story Electrical team.

Looking back, we were named Overall Winner at the National Business Awards, on top of picking up Contractor of the Year and Business Owner of the Year on the same night. We also won Business Owner of the Year at the Mercury Business Awards.

⚡ Project update! On site today checking progress on our latest EV charging install.

We're fitting 2 x Rolec Zura 7.4kW dual chargers, giving the customer 4 charging points in total. Great for sites with multiple vehicles or a growing EV fleet.

Two things that make this one stand out for the customer:

✅ Installed using the WCS grant, helping keep costs down
✅ As an Area Champion installer, we extend the warranty from 3 years to 5, with our own servicing support included

Another busy, productive day on site — installing EV charge points as part of the ongoing rollout with EV Park. This was one is in Thetford, but is just one of many.

Days like this are a great reminder of why partnerships like this one matter.

It's rare to work with a company that shares the same commitment to doing the job properly, quality installs, attention to detail, and no cutting corners.

That shared standard makes all the difference on site.

⚡ Ever had a customer tell you off... for doing something right?

Had a bloke last week point out that we'd used black screws on the black cable cleats for his Rolec EVO charger install, instead of the usual silver ones. No shiny dots running up his wall, just a clean, tidy finish that matched.

He mentioned it three times. Took us two extra minutes.

That's honestly the difference between a job that's "fine" and a job that's done properly. It's why we keep picking up awards, local and national, and why our customers keep calling us back rather than shopping around for the cheapest quote.

We reckon we play Premier League standard on every job, even down to the screws nobody's meant to notice.
