Yesterday's job moving a socket up the wall ready for fitted furniture to go in.

I recently added a cable tongue (the red thing) to my arsenal, and today it worked perfectly to slide the new cable up behind the plasterboard, meaning no wall repairs are necessary.

Then finished up with a bit of testing and a Minor Works Certificate, proving the safety and compliance of the circuit.

Certification isn't a paid extra; it is a requirement of BS7671 - which electricians must comply with to remain on the right side of the law. It's also a requirement for both my professional insurances, and YOUR home insurance! Changing a socket front, light, or switch doesn't necessarily require one, but as soon as the wiring is materially altered, this is necessary.

Flat grey cables should not be used outside, they degrade in the sun and will ultimately become dangerous with exposed live wires underneath!

Lots of outside lights about wired in this type of cable, even some recently installed! Apparently there are still 'electricians' who wear a wide brimmed hat a spurs on their boots when they go to work 🤠

Fault attended this week- lighting circuit tripping repeatedly!

After the last visit where I found an issue with the incoming supply, Northern Power's guys have been out and done a bit of digging! Cable buried under the drive through has a fault.

Power back on inside though ⚡️⚡️⚡️
