Front of the roof completed, with reclaimed welsh 18”x10” slate had to find a good match, and i like how the newer slate blends in well with the original slate.

The rear is to be started once the front new facia, gutters have been installed and lead Canopy completed below.

A re-roof has been requested in Market Weighton. The original slates will be used for 80% of the roof. Premium breathable membrane and battens have been used and copper nails have been used for the slates. The roof is marked out for each slate which takes more time but results in a superior finish. A snaking roof is undesirable. My father, who is 77, continues to slate with me.

Here we have a property on the main street, that been around 1848 originally a market town, which held weekly market days on Thursday’s.

we have been, requested to do a complete overhaul of the roof
Stripped the front and rear , roofs.

We have managed to salvage80% of the slates which were in excellent condition, which needed, cleaning up, so that had been more labour intensive. But was worth saving these original welsh slates.

You can see from this video how old the slates are from how easy it was to loft up the slates from the battens. The copper nails had nail fatigue. Lots of decades of dust and dirt from the main street. But its part and parcel of stripping a roof.
