2025 ION Youth Summer Wellbeing Initiative

We’re proud to announce that our 2025 ION Youth Summer Wellbeing Initiative is set to run for the fourth consecutive year, continuing a community-driven programme that’s positively impacted over 1,000 children across Cardiff since 2021. This summer, we’ll once again be delivering free access to physical activity, structured play, and personal development sessions for young people aged 7–16, with a focus on those from less affluent backgrounds, those with additional learning needs, and girls, whose participation in sport typically drops with age.

With only 16% of Welsh teens meeting daily activity guidelines, this programme arrives at a critical time. It’s about more than movement, it’s about supporting mental health, building confidence, and creating safe, uplifting spaces where kids can feel part of something.

A huge thanks to the support of the following local businesses and organisations helping to make a difference again this summer, creating opportunity, connection, and a positive legacy in the communities we serve.

Free Physical Activities for Children across Cardiff during the Summer Holidays.

Extremely grateful to those individuals, organisations and businesses that will help us, once again, bring our Summers Health & Wellness Initiative for Children in Cardiff to life for the third consecutive year.

The summer holidays can be a time of isolation for some children, especially when financial constraints prevent their families from participating in activities. This lack of access to recreational opportunities and social interaction can negatively affect their mental health, leaving them vulnerable. Our initiative aims to address this issue by providing inclusive opportunities for children to engage in physical activities and socialise with others.

This summer, we will offer over 80 hours of free physical activity sessions for children throughout the summer holidays. These sessions will take place daily at ION and in Youth Clubs across the city, allowing us to reach more of the community. We will be running the programme in the following locations - St.Melons & Llanrumney, Ely & Caerau, Gabalfa & Whtichurch, Llanederyn & Pentwyn, Butetown, Tremorfa & Splott. A big old project but one ION is super pumped for!

This initiative has been made possible thanks to the tremendous support from local businesses that share our commitment to providing opportunities for children from all backgrounds to enhance their physical and mental well-being.

A big thanks to Cardiff Youth Service / Gwasanaeth Ieuenctid Caerdydd for our ongoing partnership and to the following companies for their contributions that have enabled us to offer this programme.
