Last week, the team from Finkernagel Ross visited one of our current projects — a remarkable transformation of a 1940s manor house that is set to become the UK’s largest domestic EnerPHit dwelling.
The scheme is a fantastic example of how strong architectural vision and high-performance construction can work hand in hand. From the outset, the project has focused not only on achieving exceptional environmental performance, but also on creating a beautiful, characterful family home that sits comfortably within its landscape. At Terry Huggett Developments, we specialise in delivering Passive House and EnerPHit buildings, where the quality of ex*****on on site is absolutely critical. Projects like this demand an obsessive level of attention to detail, from airtightness and thermal continuity through to breathable construction methods and moisture-safe assemblies. As the project approaches its first airtightness test, months of planning, coordination and precision workmanship are coming together. Much of the most important work will ultimately disappear behind finished surfaces — specialist airtightness tapes, insulation layers and carefully resolved junctions — but these unseen elements are fundamental to the building’s long-term performance. Traditional lime screed is also being used throughout in place of conventional concrete flooring, creating a breathable floor build-up better suited to the existing structure. These types of construction decisions require a high level of craftsmanship and a deep understanding of how older buildings behave.
