Another Ford Fiesta back on the road!

The customer contacted me after replacing the battery and finding that their only key had stopped working.

Initial testing showed the key wasn’t transmitting any signal, and the transponder chip wasn’t being detected by the vehicle. The original key would still turn in the ignition, but it was heavily worn and wouldn’t operate the driver’s door lock at all.

Customer opted for a manual chip key so rather than replacing locks which is more expensive I programmed a new key into the vehicle, decoded the door lock, and cut a fresh key blank to the correct profile.

The result:

✓ New key programmed and starting the vehicle
✓ Driver’s door lock fully operational again
✓ No unnecessary parts required

A good example of why vehicle key problems aren’t always as simple as “the key has stopped working”. Proper diagnosis is just as important as programming.

Customer called saying both keys had suddenly stopped working and wanted two new keys programmed.

Whenever both keys fail at exactly the same time, that’s usually a sign there’s a bigger issue than just faulty keys.

Tested both remotes first - both were transmitting signal perfectly.

Tried them in the vehicle… nothing.

Hooked the car up to battery support and ran diagnostics. The immobiliser system was still seeing both keys stored correctly. Re-synchronised the keys to the vehicle and bosh… car fired straight up.

Packed the kit away and headed to the next job.

Then the customer messages again:
“Keys have stopped working.”

At that point the pattern was obvious.

With battery support connected = keys worked perfectly.
Without battery support = no start.

Root cause was a failing vehicle battery causing voltage issues.

Customer fitted a new battery and everything worked normally again.

This job wasn’t about button pressing or selling new keys. It was about proper fault finding and solving the actual problem.

Car sorted. Customer happy.

2022 Kia Rio attended at Southampton Hospital after the keys were locked inside the vehicle.

The RAC had already attempted entry but were unfortunately unable to gain access.

Non-destructive entry completed successfully and the customer was back inside the vehicle without damage.

2011 Ford Focus – All Keys Lost job completed.

Vehicle had been off the road with a completely dead battery. Non-destructive entry carried out to gain access to the vehicle and bonnet. Power restored safely to allow full diagnostic and key programming.

Existing keys in the system were erased. Two new keys supplied, cut, and programmed back into the vehicle. System fully reset and vehicle tested - all functions working correctly.
