NEIGHBOURHOOD SECURITY PSA...
We really need to talk about the UK Far-Right Violence happening in the UK right now 😓
It is a challenging and scary time for immigrants seeking refuge and safety in the UK, as well as people of colour being attacked in their communities...
We do not condone the actions of anyone taking part in these "Peaceful Protests" (Riots).
We'd like to extend our thanks to Cleveland Police and any other police constabularies/organizations/individuals who are working hard to prevent, deter, clean & protect our community.
Moving forward we pledge to fully support/liaise with local services and members of the public by supplying staff to voluntarily assist in the clean up of any damage caused as a result of the ongoing incidents.
🔽 keep reading below for an Image Description (ID) of the key points shared in this post:
1 - Our reaction: We are deeply horrified by the tragic deaths of the three young girls. They should have been there to enjoy themselves at a dance club, not become victims. It’s heartbreaking to see their memory overshadowed by protests that have been hijacked and turned into racist and Islamophobic demonstrations and violence.
2 - The hypocrisy: The protests and violence have become a platform for spreading Islamophobia and racism. It’s appalling to see people ruin their own communities while blaming immigrants. Similar tragedies involving different communities didn’t lead to such destructive actions. The hypocrisy in this absolutely ridiculous.
3 - The government and media have played a part: People are angry and struggling but it’s not due to immigrants. The real issues stem from government policies and austerity measures. It’s concerning to see public figures like the King receiving pay raises while people suffer from the cost of living crisis. The lack of empathy is staggering and yet immigrants are being blamed?!
4 - Allies we need your support now: Becoming an active ally means more than sharing posts. Check in on colleagues, especially those from marginalised communities. Support grassroots organisations working to aid those affected by racism. We need to move beyond words and take meaningful action to combat hate and bigotry.
5 - What you can do right now for your team: Show empathy and flexibility to your employees who may be frightened for their safety right now. Be mindful that people of colour might not feel comfortable coming into work. Schedule one-on-one meetings to understand their needs and offer the support they require during this challenging time.
