Windows are not just a building feature in mental health environments.
They affect light, ventilation, privacy, observation, safety and how a space feels for the people using it. That means window design has to do more than meet a basic function, it has to support the needs of the setting.
In high-risk environments, the frame, glazing, fixings and overall detail have to be considered carefully. But so does the experience of the person in the room. Access to natural light and a sense of openness can make a real difference. The challenge is creating that without compromising safety, security or privacy.
