Beyond their ARB Registration, Architects can choose to become a 'Chartered Architect', we are registered with the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) and go a step further to improve our experience, education and consistently research and add to our training to be the best we can be! All Architects and practices registered with the RIBA have access to a wealth of material to enable them to do their job as well as possible. The RIBA is also a useful source of information for people looking to do some work on their home, or hire an Architect, including a 'Find an Architect' feature, on which PLAN Architect Studio is listed!

How do you know you are getting the real deal? Architect is a protected profession, an Architect spends at least 7 years studying and training to become fully qualified and must be registered with the ARB (Architects Registration Board) to legally use the title 'Architect'. There are many pretenders out there, look out for people using the terms 'Architectural Designer' rather than Architect. You can also search the Register to ensure the professional you are speaking to is a fully qualified Architect and therefore fully trained. Also don't be afraid to ask your Architect for their registration number to check, we won't be offended!

So what does an Architect do? So many things!! An Architect has a range of skills to see a building project through from start to finish, from the site research, survey and analysis to understand how to get the most out of the space within the legal limits set out by national planning policy, local authority planning departments and any neighbourhood initiatives. The Architect will design a range of concepts based on the site and what the home-owner needs from the project, they will then develop this design into a set of drawings ready to submit for planning consent, along with any other reports required (unless specialist involvement is needed!) They will also provide all the construction details which are required by the builder to price the project and construct on site, and by the building inspector to ensure that everything is built to all the latest building regulations! An Architect can then help find a builder, help you navigate building contracts, oversee the project on site and are the ones who help when unexpected issues come up on site. We wear a lot of different hats doing this job, making every day different to the last, it is a very interesting and exciting job to do and I couldn't be happier with my career choice!

My twins were born just after I set up and my maternity leave was a juggling act of getting new clients, working on new projects and learning how to manage 2 tiny babies! My oldest was 2.5 and found it all very exciting to visit new projects and is now starting to understand what an Architect actually does....

Hi! I don't think I have ever introduced myself on my feed so thought I would let you know who PLAN Architect Studio actually is! I'm Zoe and I run PLAN Architect Studio Ltd, a Cheshire based Architecture practice specialising in modernising character homes, retaining all the quirky interesting bits and bringing a little contemporary edge! I work on extensions, renovation project and the occassional new build, mostly around Cheshire, sometimes beyond! Look at how quickly things are moving on this complete renovation project with 2 storey rear extension, single storey side extension and contemporary outbuilding! The client has taken some excellent drone footage also so look out for that in my stories! All the work to this old farmhouse is being carried out under the clients permitted development rights, get in touch to find out more about what you can (And can't) do to your home with these rights!

We have so many projects on site around Cheshire at the minute, and some are nearing completion so this is such an exciting time for PLAN Architect Studio! This project is actually in Trentham, a beautifully contemporary single storey rear extension with garage conversion and extensive internal remodel. We are so excited to see it finished as these guys were some of our very first clients! The whole process of renovating and extending can take years from the intitial discussion and concept design, waiting for planning approval and finding the best builder for the job, so if you are planning on making some alterations to your home in the next year or 2, it is definitely worth getting the ball rolling and having a discussion with your Architect!

We have recently submitted another planning application to Cheshire East for this part single, part 2 storey rear and side extension near Knutsford. The extension will add some much needed living space, office space, and a larger master bedroom with dressing area and ensuite!

The homeowners spent a long time trying to decide if they wanted to extend and renovate their current house to meet their needs, or move to a bigger house elsewhere. This is such a big decision, and one that many people face, in an ideal world would you invest in the home you live in or move?
