Finished… almost!

This bespoke geometric floor, featuring Winckelmans tiles and the beautiful Celtic border designed by my late mentor Steve Sinnott, is now complete.

Seeing Steve's design come to life has been incredibly special, and I'm so proud to have been trusted with bringing his vision to reality.

The soft green and ivory tones suit the hallway perfectly, creating a timeless entrance that will be enjoyed for many years to come.

Bren is absolutely delighted with the finished result, and that makes all the hard work worthwhile.

The only job left is to complete the emergency access hatch, but I couldn't wait to share the transformation.

Thank you, Steve. Your legacy lives on through every floor.

The first stage of something very special.

These photographs capture the first stage of assembling a bespoke Celtic geometric floor, based on an original design by my late mentor and friend, Steve Sinnott. The floor has been produced using Winckelmans tiles, with the intricate bespoke elements precision waterjet cut by Aquacut Group, based in Warrington.

Every piece is carefully checked, hand assembled and dry-laid before installation to ensure the pattern flows perfectly. It's a meticulous process, but that's what makes bespoke geometric flooring so rewarding—every detail matters.

Soon this beautiful floor will be installed in Bren's hallway in Liverpool, bringing Steve's vision to life exactly as he intended. It feels incredibly special to be entrusted with completing one of his original designs and continuing the legacy of craftsmanship he dedicated his life to.

Steve taught me so much, and it's an honour to see his creativity live on through projects like this. I know he would have been proud to see it finally coming together.

I can't wait to share the next stage and, ultimately, the finished floor.

This beautiful Victorian encaustic and geometric tiled floor in Crosby was finally cleaned and sealed at the beginning of the month, marking the completion of a project that has been both challenging and rewarding.

The project was originally undertaken by Steve Sinnott of Heritage Tiling & Restoration. Following Steve's sudden passing, the work was entrusted to me to see through to completion. At the time, it was the largest floor restoration project I had taken on. However, whether it's a square metres or many more, the principles remain the same — just on a larger scale.

The floor had dropped considerably and as part of an extensive renovation to the rear of the property, the decision was made to carefully lift the floor, address the underlying issues, and relay it correctly.

The journey to completion wasn't without its challenges. From dealing with inadequate screeding and unexpected leaks to working around an ever-changing building schedule, patience and perseverance were certainly required.

Seeing the floor restored, cleaned, sealed, and looking as it should once again makes every challenge worthwhile.

A fitting result for a remarkable floor and a project I know Steve would have been proud to see completed.

Continuing professional development is an important part of providing the highest standard of conservation and restoration services.

This week, I had the pleasure of attending an excellent Limecrete course with Ty-Mawr Lime at a truly unique historic property in Brecon. The course was highly informative, providing valuable practical knowledge and a deeper understanding of traditional building materials and methods.

The training took place at the former Postern Gaol, one of Brecon's two historic prisons. Built in 1842 on Postern Street, the gaol is renowned for its remarkably preserved basement cells and original iron doors. Today, this fascinating building has been sympathetically converted into a Grade II listed three-bedroom residence, allowing its rich history to live on.

One of the highlights of the course was meeting a fantastic group of like-minded people who share a passion for traditional buildings and heritage construction. It was great to exchange knowledge, experiences, and ideas, and I was delighted to offer my support to fellow attendees working on limecrete floor projects across the country—from Swansea to Northumberland.

Life is too short to be only work related.

Running a business is important, building a career matters, and working hard creates opportunities — but making memories matters too.

In 2022, I took a journey to Namche in the Himalayas in memory of my Aunt Jayne. It reminded me that life is about more than deadlines and responsibilities. Sometimes we need to step away, challenge ourselves, reflect, and appreciate the people and moments that shape us.

Success is not only measured in business achievements, but also in the experiences we carry with us forever.

Never forget to make time for life.

Another day focused on preparation work — carefully cleaning and preparing tiles ready for laying.

In historic floor restoration, much of what we do is the “invisible work” — the detailed preparation behind the scenes that clients may never fully see. However, it is this stage that lays the foundation for a successful restoration and ensures the finished floor not only looks exceptional, but stands the test of time.

Quality restoration is always built on meticulous preparation.

Digging out today in this heat was definitely not enjoyable 🥵☀️

I couldn’t leave a single thing lying around because the dog thought everything was fair game and kept trying to walk off with it 😂🐾

Then, just as I was packing up to leave at the end of the day, I turned around and found I had an extra passenger trying to escape with me! 🚐🐶

Never a dull moment on site today 😅

4 of 7 beautifully tiled floors cleaned and sealed at this job in Biddulph. 2 other floors will be completed on Friday.

The bathroom floor has been partially cleaned but is in need of some minor repairs which will be completed once the new radiator and toilet are fitted.

I think someone went overboard with the silicone around the base of the toilet. No leaks here 😆 🤣
