I am a electric car charger installer, this job needed a consumer unit upgrade, Hager use type A RCDs, the very common type AC RCDs are almost not fit for purpose any more as most houses have electronic devices which leak DC current which blinds this type of RCD and can make them not do their job as expected,

Rolec offer a simple budget car charger.

If you have economy 7 heating it could be wired to that consumer unit making use of cheap overnight electricity.

Take a good look a the proposed position of the charger. Is there any exposed metal within 10m? Often gas pipes enter the house from the front. If so this Rolec is NOT suitable, as it doesn't have the extra and, in my opinion, very important open Protective Earth Neutral fault device.

There have been reports of the RCD failing due to overheating. Type A RCDs are easily avaliable for replacement

Metal lights are beautiful and inexpensive to buy and you would think easy to fit however during the last year I have conducted about 100 EICRs (Electrical Installation Condition Reports) and about 25% of the time these metal lights are NOT earthed.

If the line conductor (live wire) was to come loose and touch the metal casing, the light would stop working and as you changed the light bulb you would get electrocuted, mostly likely whilst standing on a chair.

So, easy yes? Just connect the green and yellow wire.

How would you confirm the green and yellow light does actually connect to earth and does not have a break in it?

This is just 1 of a few tests that I as a Colchester Electrician perform and document every time I replace a light fittings

Outside Hot Tub 32Amp Supply

Run 6mm armored cable from consumer unit to out building 25m away.

Carry out installation calculation

1. Confirm voltage drop under full load
2. Maximum demand of property not exceed incoming supply
3. Earth fault loop impedance complies

Upon completion thoroughly test new circuit, fill out Electrical Installation Certificate and register the work with building control.
