With the prolonged periods of high temperatures and dry conditions we're currently experiencing, many trees are coming under increased stress.
One of the most common issues during hot weather is Summer Branch Drop – where large, healthy-looking limbs can suddenly fail without warning, even on otherwise healthy trees. This is most commonly seen in species such as oak, beech, willow and poplar, and can pose a significant risk where trees overhang roads, footpaths, gardens and buildings.
The weather can also have a lasting impact once the rain returns. After extended dry periods, heavy rainfall can rapidly saturate the soil, reducing root stability in already stressed trees and increasing the likelihood of branch or whole tree failure, particularly where decay or structural defects are present.
Signs to look out for include:

🍂 Premature leaf drop or leaf scorch
🍄 Fungal growth around the base or stem
🌿 Cracks, splits or cavities
⚠️ Leaning trees or exposed roots following heavy rain
