Big step for Channel Architecture today.

Sign writing is now up at the Porlock High Street office — and it finally feels properly up and running.

After a steady few years, we’ve moved the growing business out of the home environment into a space that better suits where things are heading.

Looking forward to continuing to support our existing clients and building new relationships in the future.

A building regulations section coming to life.

For me, the section drawing is one of the most critical drawings at construction stage, bringing together structural design, thermal performance and key construction detailing.

This is not a quick cut-and-paste exercise. Using a library of pre-developed construction elements, each drawing is carefully built up layer by layer — much like the process on site.

I interrogate every element through continuous cross-referencing with floor plans and elevations, visualising how each component will be constructed to identify and resolve potential issues before work begins.

My on-site construction experience informs this approach, allowing technical drawings to be developed from a practical, buildable perspective. We also work closely with trusted private building inspectors, structural engineers and SAP assessors — building strong working relationships to ensure proposals are robust, compliant and ready for construction.

Technical detailing remains one of the most rewarding parts of the architectural process.

At Henley Manor, shells have quickly become nearly watertight homes, with the first plot now revealed.

A long-awaited project and it’s great to see it finally taking shape for the community. The old, unfit-for-purpose toilet block has now been demolished and the shell of the new extension completed. The building is being fully reconfigured to provide modern, accessible facilities for everyone. We look forward to sharing further updates as the project progresses.

30 minutes of Building Regulations drawings in 30 seconds.
Everything is drawn from scratch, allowing each element to be fully coordinated and interrogated. This process helps identify and resolve design challenges before works commence on site, supporting a smoother construction phase and building control approval.

Two-storey rear extension – shell completed.

A complex two-storey rear extension featuring a double gabled roof with triangular windows, requiring a high level of technical detailing and close collaboration with the structural engineer to design a suitable steel frame. After a long journey from initial concept through to construction, it’s great to see the project now reaching this stage and really starting to take shape.

The design also incorporates a concealed pelmet detail that allows the valley hopper and downpipe to be diverted to the side of the large bifold doors, keeping the main opening clean and uninterrupted while managing rainwater discreetly. A technical drawing has been included to show how these elements were carefully resolved behind the scenes.

A great milestone on a long-awaited project.

We’re really pleased to share that we’ve secured planning approval for a variation of condition to update and refine the design of a new-build dwelling we’ve been involved with for several years. 🏡✨

What started as a project that should have been fairly straightforward gradually became much more complex – but this approval marks a real milestone. It’s actually the first application on this site to be granted without going to appeal, which is a fantastic outcome for our client. 🙌📄

This is a long-standing client of ours, and we’re excited to continue working closely with them as we move into the next stage: obtaining accurate costings and finally bringing this beautiful home to life. 🔧📐

Two planning approvals in one day 🎉

The first is a wrap-around single storey extension for a client in Taunton. We produced the full Building Regulations drawing set and used it for the planning submission — confident it would be approved. This approach means the client can put a shovel in the ground the same day planning is granted 💪

The second approval was for a new build dwelling. This one took longer than expected due to local authority staffing issues, but it worked out well in the end — we secured a full refund of the submission fees from the council 🙌
