Following incidents in Dundee yesterday where a dog was stolen (later recovered) in Menzieshill, and alleged attempted thefts of dogs in the Baxter Park area, we have some crime prevention advice for you to help keep yourself and your dog safe.

Where at all possible, avoid leaving dogs in the garden or outside kennels when not at home.

Never leave your dog secured alone, outside a shop. This makes them vulnerable and a tempting target for opportunist thieves.

Your dog should be microchipped and registered with current information. Use a collar and dog tag displaying contact details (don’t put your dog’s name on the tag, use your surname).

Take photographs of yourself with your dog, to help you prove ownership if needed.

Never let them off the lead if you are not sure they will come back to you, especially if you are in an unfamiliar area where your dog might get lost.

Try not to give details of your pets, your location or your walking locations out on your social media platforms.

When out walking, beware of strangers asking you questions about your dog.

Vary your times of walks and routes; to avoid dogs being targeted during walks.

If your dog is lost or suspected stolen, it is important to act quickly:-

Report all missing / stolen dogs on 101, so if found they can be reunited with their owners.

If you believe your pet has been stolen, report it to the police and ask it is recorded as a theft and not as a lost animal, and note the crime reference number provided.

Notify the microchip database provider.

Report the loss on as many missing animal websites as possible – there is no single national missing animal database.

Losing a pet due to theft or other reasons is a traumatic event. Blue Cross operates the national Pet Bereavement Support Service which can be contacted on 0800 096 6606 (8.30am – 8.30pm) or by email: [email protected].

Temperatures are forecast to plummet!! Here is some advice from your plumber mate that could save you thousands!!!
If you have an outside tap make sure it is isolated (water supply shut off) and open the tap outside to allow any expanding water to escape.
If the house is occupied, programme the timer for the boiler to come on for a couple of hours overnight, even just at low, this will circulate hot water through the pipework and take the chill off of hidden areas like under floors. If you have frost protection this is not necessary.
If you have stored water in your attic then open the loft hatch and leave it open to allow heat into the attic during the coldest spells, this will help protect against tanks freezing.
If you are leaving the house unoccupied then shut off the water and drain the systems, call a plumber to do this for you if your unsure on how to do it.
If you go to use a tap or anything and no water comes out...turn off your water at the main stopcock and phone a plumber immediately. This could suggest a frozen pipe which may have burst the pipe, this will not cause any issue until it thaws, it will be a major issue if it thaws and the system is still pressured!!
If you are unsure of anything or need any further advice please contact a plumber...obviously feel free to choose me!!

Got a call out from an older lady last week who thought her Rhones needed replaced, went up to see her and it turned out the White Rhone and fascia and soffit were just grubby, I explained to her that I could take them down and give everything a good clean up, which would save her a fortune and hopefully solve her issue. She decided to go with this and the work was carried out today, end result is I made a decent wage for the time it took me and this older lady is delighted with the result and has some extra pennies to spend on herself. Some before and after pictures..if you feel your white guttering could do with a bit of a freshen up, give us a shout and we will gladly give you a quote.
