Hey folks , as there are so many new people , this is what we do .
Who are we
We started 15 years ago and have cut wildlife crime dramatically in those years. For example, when we started 60 % of badger setts in the Motherwell area alone had been attacked, some multiple times , it was quite common, but now it's very rare to find a sett that has been attacked. We now cover all of Lanarksire
1. Lobby to have wildlife warning signs on dangerous roads.
2. Investigate developments by reading ecological reports and ensuring they abide by the law. We then visit sites before the development starts to ensure there is no wildlife (including badger setts, bird nests, bats etc) that isn’t mentioned in any of the reports. We are finding that we are making more and more developers aware of protected wildlife not present on Ecological reports
3. liaising with developers, MSP, S, MP’s, councillors, SSPCA, badger Scotland and more
5. Make the public aware of their actions and the effect those actions have on wildlife. We do this online and with posters. The posters we put out cover dogs chasing deer, ground nesting birds and more,
We also make the public aware of badger baiting, digging, lamping, dog fighting and more, we believe people need to know the horrific details of what really goes on.
6. We look after we'll over 300 badger setts , we check setts every day, we also have cameras on roughly 100 setts
7. Infiltrate the hunting community’s and gain the confidence of certain individuals. This allows us to gain valuable information on who is hunting, where, how and when.
8. Patrol areas day and night where we believe hunting is due to take place or have been given intelligence .
9. In times of adverse weather, we give wildlife an extra helping hand in anyway way we can, for example the last dry spell we spend 100s of pounds on water and bowls 🥣 which we placed all over lanarkshire
10. Wildlife is losing habitat at an alarming rate, there is nothing we can do to prevent this but we can try and provide shelter for those most affected so we Put out hedgehog, bat and bird boxes and monitor these boxes.
11. we have saved 100s of foxes that were injured starving or ill and we still feed and care for those foxes,
12 . we do rescues for some small animals but are restricted
13, comb areas for vile snares, we live in a particular bad area for these horrible things :(
14, visit fishing areas to look for fishing tackle that's been thrown away before it causes damage to wildlife
15, encourage landowners not to cut grass at certain times of the year and inform the council when their actions may have a negative effect on wildlife.
16 , almost forgot our regular deer stuck in a fence call out .
17. In the spring we encourage people to check for nests before cutting trees or hedges, we also report people for breaking laws regarding nests or bat roosts, we patrol areas checking nests, and bat roosts we feel are under threat
Also house Martin nests are destroyed every year so we spend a few weeks recording as many as we can .
We have big plans for the future which includes charity status, WILDLIFE RESCUE Centre and getting as many people on board as possible.
There are probably loads more we could add to the above list.
Ps, we also get loads of call-outs from worried members of the public or to wildlife in distress.
We also like to be there for anyone who needs someone to talk to or feels alone.
Any questions just ask
